Parks, history and scenery in Oak Hill Village

Oak Hill Village is a delight for those who prefer to be surrounded by nature. After all, the neighborhood’s name derives from the oak trees that populate the landscape, some decorated with Spanish moss. Trees aren’t the only marker of history, either: there are plenty of 19th-century homes to check out. Horse lovers will fit right in, too. Throughout the neighborhood are horse trails and stables. Mark Gaudino, broker and realtor with Homes4Sale Realty, says the area appeals to “city people who want more of a farm or ranch-like area.” Four community parks contribute to the neighborhood’s makeup as well, but not everything in Oak Hill Village is about the outdoors. Despite being somewhat of a bedroom community, it promotes policies that foster small business growth. Plus, with Interstate 75 forming the western border, there’s plenty of connectivity to the wider region.

Ranches with circular driveways

Much of the housing stock in Oak Hill Village is made up of ranches and assorted two-story homes with large circular driveways, sitting on one acre of land or more. Although there have been housing developments from 2000 to the present, most homes were built between 1970 and 1999. Given the neighborhood’s quiet scenic location, plus access to transportation amenities, many homes begin at the million-dollar mark. A good example of what homebuyers might encounter at the starting point of the market is a five-bedroom stark white ranch from 1970, exuding the clean lines of midcentury modernism. Embellished with palm trees and a backyard swimming pool, this type of home will sell at $1.1 million. Prices generally range from $950,000 to $2.5 million.

Forensic science at Western High

Regarding education, Oak Hill Village is part of the Broward County School District. Schools like Country Isles Elementary and Indian Ridge Middle earn an A-minus overall from Niche. Western High scores the same, and is known for its diverse courses, like forensic science. The school also offers an Advanced International Certificate of Education, which provides up to 45 hours of college credit.

Elevation at Vista View Park

For homes without equestrian amenities, the neighborhood’s Oak Hill Equestrian Park has riding rings, trails and water troughs, playgrounds, picnic areas and restrooms. Vista View Park caters to cyclists, paragliders and horseback riders. Yes, that’s right, paragliders: the park’s hilltop is the highest manufactured elevation in Broward County and is a favorite spot to watch Fourth of July fireworks. Dogs are allowed at the park.

Lucille’s American Café is a bruch hotspot

Residents have several options when it comes to food and entertainment. Residents often head to nearby Tijuana Flats or Outback Steakhouse. Lucille’s American Café is a hit for Sunday brunch, especially with their tomato bleu cheese soup. For groceries, Publix is in the neighborhood and there’s a Walmart Supercenter. Residents can also take a short drive to the nearby Weston Town Center for an Artisan Market, craft shows, live music, karate demonstrations, wine tasting and fun-filled holiday events such as Spooky Halloween, Easter Family Fun Day and the annual Christmas Tree Lighting. The center also includes a Publix, restaurants and boutique-style retail.

I-75 is a crucial amenity

Interstate 75 running along the west end certainly provides a pulse to the community. But there’s also Griffin Road running along the south, which is lined with commercial amenities like Walmart, especially near Flamingo Road, the other north-south corridor along with I-75. With all the park space and cul-de-sacs, Oak Hill Village is certainly walkable, and residents often see bicyclists come through, due to the numerous bike paths.
