A quieter Davie neighborhood in between major roads
With some of the lowest prices on the east side of Davie and wedged between Davie Road and Florida's Turnpike, the Playland Village neighborhood is a residential spot with proximity to all that greater Miami offers. Here, residential streets with a variety of single-family and multi-family housing are just a short walk or drive away from the wide variety of shopping and dining in downtown Davie. Area school districts and universities are also close by. “Playland Village is a great mixture of Davie's old country influence combined with a modern-day look at the same time maintaining its hometown western ambiance,” says Andrew O’Boyle, team leader of FamilyANDyFun Realtors who has been serving the Davie community for almost 30 years.
Surrounded by bustling Florida roads
The Playland Village area is south of Interstate 595 and north of Griffin Road. With all these main thoroughfares less than a mile away, it's an ideal location for accessing Davie or swinging into downtown Fort Lauderdale. For trips outside of the state, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is 9 miles to the east. The HCA Florida University Hospital is about 2 miles to the west for residents seeking medical care.
Delights in Davie and Miami
Locals can enjoy a night out in Davie at Miller’s Ale House, commonly known as the Davie Ale House, which “is a great place to enjoy a meal and some entertainment,” O’Boyle says. The restaurant offers a classic sports bar feel and serves their famous chicken tenders known as Zingers. Locals can also head to downtown Miami to enjoy restaurants like Ossobuco, which has a modern style and features an open-fire grill and a wide variety of meat and vegetable dishes. For groceries, locals can head north to the nearby Publix or head to Trader Joe's at the Tower Shops Shopping Mall.
Outdoor fun at Broward County parks
Veterans Park is a pocket park just a couple of blocks from most residences that offers green space, a shaded playset and a quiet spot for fishing. Locals can also head to Markham Park, about 12 miles away from Interstate 595. The park is on the edge of the Everglades and is most popular for its public shooting range and observatory, which are connected by walking and hiking trails. Locals can also head to CB Smith Park, a summer hotspot with its waterpark and golfing center.
Davie single and multi-family homes side-by-side
Eclectic ranch-style homes and low-rise multi-family residences line the streets of the neighborhood, with a mix of homeowners and renters in the area. Primarily made up of older buildings, many properties in Playland Village have seen renovations, leading to some fluctuation in pricing, but generally it is notably less expensive than surrounding neighborhoods. “Most of the homes in Playland village were built in the '60s, '70s and ‘80s, all well-built homes and easily affordable for working/middle income families,” O’Boyle says. Condo prices start around $180,000, and single-family home prices start around $300,000, with most properties in the area capping off at around $450,000.
Broward County Public Schools
Students can start their education at Davie Elementary, which receives a C-plus rating on Niche. Students can then continue to Driftwood Middle School, which receives a B-minus rating, before finishing up at the C-plus rated Hollywood Hills High School. The school is particularly well known for its award winning military academy magnet program and wide variety of career tech programs. Florida Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University sit less than a mile away off Davie Road, providing quick access to higher education.
The Orange Blossom Festival
Locals are always excited at the end of February to attend the weekend-long Orange Blossom Festival. The celebrations include a series of concerts, a festival full of vendors and games, a colorful parade of marching bands and other organizations, and a rodeo.
