Carver Heights is part of a booming housing market
Tucked between Interstate 95 and Downtown Deerfield Beach, you’ll find Carver Heights. The neighborhood can be roughly divided in half, with single-family homes and the local elementary school on the east side, plus condominiums, apartment buildings and a 55-and-over community on the west side, near I-95. “Southeast Florida is on fire,” says Coldwell Banker's Bonnie Metviner, who's been a Realtor in Southeast Florida for over 20 years. Metviner has also served as 2020 Florida State RRC/CRS President & 2021-2023 RRC Region 2 RVP. “Florida home values have now surpassed New York, and with the lack of inventory and no state income tax, homebuyers continue to flock to the Sunshine State. Deerfield in particular is desirable for its very central location, accessible to pretty much every part of Broward County.”
Many options for housing styles and prices
The Natura subdivision is a 55-plus community near I-95. This proximity makes it a desirable place to live. “It’s affordable to be on the east side of 95 and still be close to the beach,” says Metviner. “Affordable housing for under or around $300,000 is rare to find in Broward County.” Natura has single-family ranch-style homes that all look very similar, though they’re listed as townhomes for the county record. There are also condos in the community. Closing sale prices for homes in Natura range from $225,000 to $370,000. The price will vary based on the size of the home — the number of bedrooms and bathrooms — and whether the home has been updated. New roofs, for example, are extremely valuable. Metviner adds, “It’s a very large community. Landscaping and maintenance are taken care of by the HOA, and residents have access to a community pool and clubhouse.”
Trivoli Park Apartments and Trivoli Trace Condominiums are south of Natura. Condo units are priced roughly between $200,000 and $250,000, depending on the floorplan and any updates done to the unit. Single-family homes on the east side of Carver Heights primarily include ranch-style homes of various colors, and shotgun-style houses. Prices for recently sold houses range from $335,000 for a shotgun-style house with 1,300 square feet of living space, to $540,000 for a ranch-style house with a two-story addition and 4,100 square feet of living space. There are plenty of sidewalks to get around the neighborhood on foot, and public transportation is available on South Dixie Highway, Southwest Fourth Street, West Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Hillsboro Boulevard.
Nearby schools with advanced program options
Students can attend Deerfield Park Elementary, Deerfield Beach Middle School and Deerfield Beach High School. Deerfield Park Elementary is in walking distance of the surrounding homes, and the middle and high school are a 5-minute drive away. Deerfield Beach High, graded B-minus on Niche, offers Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses, and the International Baccalaureate Program.
Local groceries with other shopping and dining options within a 10-minute drive
The Ideal Food Basket on Hillsboro Boulevard will cover your grocery needs. Pop’s Fish Market across the street, a family-owned and operated store since 1963, is the place to go for a variety of fresh seafood. You can request to have fish cut to your preferences and prepare it yourself at home, or stop by for lunch and order a meal. If you prefer catching your own fish, you’ll find bait and tackle shops like Jonah’s Bait & Tackle in area. On the south side of Carver Heights, where I-95 meets Southwest 10th Street, is the BrandsMart USA department store for retail shopping. You’ll also find a Publix Super Market at Hillsboro Square less than 10 minutes away by car, and Aldi, Sprouts Farmers Market and Winn-Dixie are on Federal Highway. Bealls and Target are also just past Winn-Dixie. You’re roughly a 10-minute drive from a variety of restaurants on Deerfield Beach like JB’s on the Beach and Amante’s Italian Cuisine. For a quick bite to eat, you’ll find several fast-food and fast-casual restaurants on the major roads in the area, like Hook Fish and Chicken on Hillsboro Boulevard.
Carver Heights is close to the beach and the Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex
While you’re only 10 minutes away from the beach, you can also enjoy the outdoors and other recreational activities at the Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex. There is a gym and a community center on the grounds for indoor activities. Kids can enjoy the playground, or play basketball and other pick-up ball games on the multipurpose field. You can get your steps in on the walking trail.
