Suburban Neighborhood in Delray Beach, Florida
Palm Beach County 33467
Try your hand at a hole-in-one every day in the Atlantic National community, a collection of country club-based residences overlooking lush, rolling greens and glittering lakes.
You'll find Atlantic National in western Lake Worth, right off U.S. Highway 441 and main thoroughfare, Lantana Road. The community is also near a ramp onto Florida's Turnpike, so despite being a westernmost community, commuting is a simple affair for residents here.
While some properties in National Atlantic date back to the late 1980s and 1990s, most of the area's single-family homes were originally built in the early 2000s, so you won't see many "typical" Floridian ranch-style homes. You can find sprawling Spanish Revival and Mediterranean eclectic mansions on lush oversized — and in some cases, multiacre — lots. You'll also see gated communities of single and bilevel houses that display Spanish Revival architecture with characteristics like stucco exteriors, earthy tones, terracotta barrel roof tiles and arches. Homes within gated communities typically sit on smaller lots that benefit from being located directly on country club grounds, so folks can walk out of the front door and enjoy the plethora of amenities and pristine, lush landscaping that await them. Regardless of whether you're in a gated or ungated community, you'll always see neighbors outside enjoying the South Florida sunshine. Market prices for a single-family house in Atlantic National start in the $500,000s, which can land you a three-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch on a 9,405-square-foot lot in a gated community. Prices can get up to $3.25 million or more for, say, a six-bedroom, five-bathroom estate on over an acre of land.
There are two main draws to the Atlantic National area; the first and most obvious is the abundance of golfing facilities in and around the community. The neighborhood's namesake, Atlantic National Golf Club, formerly known as the Grand Lacuna Golf Club, was developed in the late 1980s by famed golf course architect Joe Lee. It's an 18-hole, par-71, full-length championship course stretched across the neighborhood's east side. Even if you live directly on these greens, overlooking the lawns as folks navigate bunkers, there's no mandatory membership since it's a public course, making Atlantic National unique compared to surrounding golf and country club communities.
Schools are the second major draw to this area. Students in the communities northside can start their academic career at Discover Key Elementary, which lies less than 5 miles due north and was rated with an A-minus on Niche. Also rated with an A-minus by Niche — and even closer to the neighborhood — Coral Reef Elementary School is where southside students can start school before joining their northern neighbors at Woodlands Middle, rated with a B-plus on Niche and graduating from Palm Beach County's newest high school, Dr. Joaquín García High. After it opened in August of 2023 and became the county's first new high school in nearly 20 years, Dr. Joaquín García High welcomed students with cutting-edge technology in the classroom and state-of-the-art security throughout the $103 million building.
Day-to-day shopping and running errands are quick trips for Atlantic National residents with Town Commons, a local shopping trip, sitting right outside the neighborhood. In addition to Publix, this strip is also home to a couple restaurants. One of them is Mamma Mia's Trattoria & Brick Oven Pizzeria, a local, family-owned restaurant that has quickly become a neighborhood favorite with its menu of homestyle Italian recipes and hot pies.
Nearby major highways and great schools, Atlantic National offers country club living without country club prices. It's a community more than worth considering if you're moving to Palm Beach County.
