A private slice of Oregon coast
From its beachside location and luxurious recreational facilities to its proximity to the highway and downtown Depoe Bay, this Central Coast community makes for comfortable coastal living. This 140-acre neighborhood isn’t called Little Whale Cove for nothing either. It's perched right by a section of Oregon's coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean where residents won’t need to travel far to find the namesake mammals. “Whales come in really close, and the cliffs make it great for whale watching,” says Bonnie Saxton, a broker for Advantage Real Estate with 29 years of home-selling experience. The beach in this neighborhood also differs from other Oregon beaches because of its rocky coastline, so while it makes for scenic walks, swimming is not advised.
Outdoor and indoor recreation along the cliffs
Nature is all around, from the Douglas firs that adorn the coastline to the large rocks that jut out from the sea. Audra Powell, a principal broker for Advantage Real Estate who has worked in real estate for 20 years, says that the trails in Little Whale Cove are a defining feature. "They have over 3 miles of developed trails through the forest and along the ocean. It’s so pretty and it feels kind of like living in a park. "Whale Cove National Wildlife Refuge lies just to the neighborhood's southern edge. Here the rocky cliffs hug the shores and form a secluded beach — in fact, it's the only privately-owned beach in Oregon — where whales like to gather. "There's a number of resident gray whales that basically live in the Depoe Bay area all year," Powell says. Little Whale Cove is also home to a few recreational amenities. Walking paths, a pickleball court, a gym and a swimming pool are among them. For those who enjoy watching the intense storms that roll in from late November to early March, the shores of Little Whale Cove also make a great spot to witness the might of the Pacific Ocean during this time of year. Residents can also go kayaking and hold picnics at Depoe Bay City Park, just a 2-mile drive to the north.
