Detroit's oldest neighborhood: artistic, thriving and pedestrian-friendly
Located just west of downtown Detroit, Corktown has a charismatic, artistic undercurrent, creating an identity all its own. Colorful and ornate houses show off their personalities in Detroit’s oldest neighborhood, established in 1834. “Corktown is expanding both in terms of single-family homes and businesses. The draw is the entertainment and proximity to downtown,” says Miranda Morrow, licensed real estate broker at National Realty Centers with over 15 years of experience. Michigan Central Station, a former transportation hub, has recently reopened as a mixed-use space dedicated to mobility solutions, attracting significant investment to the area. Corktown is very walkable with bike lanes and good public transit.

It’s calm enough to still raise a family.” Turn-of-the-century homes have old, charming features like fireplaces as well as modern necessities like dishwashers.
