Both schools hold C ratings from Niche. “Regent Park is a great place for families because the schools are so close,” Thompson says. Upper-level students attend nearby Denby High School, which holds a C-minus rating from Niche. In addition to its focus on college and career readiness, Denby High is also notable for its historic Art Deco architecture — it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. Parents choosing an alternative to public school can send their children to Regent Park Scholars Charter Academy, a tuition-free K-8 charter school in the neighborhood.

Gratiot Avenue and access to Interstate 94
Regent Park might be on the northeastern outskirts of Detroit, but the trip downtown is relatively short. Taking Gratiot Avenue to Interstate 94, drivers can be in the city’s bustling center in just about 11 miles. For residents who prefer public transit, there are bus stops along larger thoroughfares like Gratiot Avenue and Eight Mile Road. Community streets are also lined with sidewalks for residents who like to walk.
