The neighborhood is also home to history, including The Odd Fellows Hall which has been preserved by the National Register of Historic Places. El Asador Steakhouse highlights local dining

El Asador Steakhouse serves up some of the most popular Mexican-inspired steak dishes in Detroit. Tacos El Gordo’s house-smoked meats attract food lovers, and Mangonadas Del Barrio is a local favorite for Mexican sweets. The Odd Fellows Hall, a historic building, has been restored. In 2002, the West Vernor-Springwells and West Vernor-Lawndale Historic Districts were added to the National Register of Historic Place, which included The Odd Fellows Hall. Since 1996, it's been home to Mexicantown Bakery. Grocery stores in the neighborhood include E&L Supermercado, Azteca Supermercado and La Mexican Supermercado. For shopping, Independence Marketplace has stores including Lowe’s. Staples, JoAnn and Guitar Center.

Patton Memorial Park's future splash park and great lawn

Patton Memorial Park has walking paths, sports fields, and playgrounds with fitness stations. In 2023 the city of Detroit announced improvements to the park that will be done in phases over the next few years that include a splash park, enhanced picnic areas, and a "great lawn" for outdoor events.The park has natural marsh too. Saint Hedwig Park has picnic sites, a playground, basketball courts and two baseball diamonds.

Bennett Elementary partners with University of Michigan

Students can attend Amelia Earhart Elementary rated C-minus, for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Bennett Elementary, rated C-plus, partners with the University of Michigan for a unique Art Program, and students can join the Gardening Club to learn about growing produce. Direct access to I-75 and nearby airport connections

Springwells residents can ride public transportation provided by DDOT bus routes that take people through Detroit. The main streets bordering the community are Dix Highway, Waterman Street, Fort Street and Woodmere Street. Major highways, including Interstate 75, run just east of the neighborhood, and goes into downtown Detroit in just over 6 miles. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is about 13.5 miles away on I-75 and I-94.

Cinco de Mayo Parade and Who Got The Props dance competition

The Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade and Festival draws crowds from across the city. The event features traditional Mexican food, music, and crafts. The Motor City Street Dance Academy also hosts the popular Who Got The Props breaking competition, bringing dancers from around the world to the area since 2009.

Everything would be perfect if it wasn't in Detroit to be honest. It is way too unsafe to take buses anywhere because you become an easy target for a mugging. Bike riders do have their own lanes, but they rarely use them not to mention not all drivers are that cautious. Driving is good on wider roads but there are many small streets and some people drive under the influence and cause them to commit hit and runs. Like I stated above everything would be smooth sailing if these things weren't in Detroit.
