Dormont means “mountain of gold,” which is fitting for Dormont borough, where a treasure trove of amenities is within reach. “It’s a walking community. One square mile to reach everything in the town,” says Cindy D’Agostino, the Director of the Dormont Public Library. Potomac Avenue, Dormont’s main thoroughfare, is a prime example of the neighborhood’s walkability. Dozens of specialty shops and local eateries in historic brick buildings sit snuggly along sidewalk-lined streets. The busy Potomac Station is on the avenue, too, making maneuvering the greater Pittsburgh area easy. Dormont is also known for its expansive community park, which shares its grounds with the local elementary school.
