A foliage-filled landscape in Rhode Island
Like its neighbor to the north, Frenchtown’s largely residential landscape is filled with trees, though it incorporates slightly more local fare than Shippeetown. Routes 2 and 4 carve their way through the eastern and southeastern parts of the neighborhood, linking Frenchtown closely with the rest of Rhode Island and beyond.
A wide range of architectural choices
Many of the homes in the neighborhood are colonials, some with the center-hall layout design. Architectural styles also include ranch and Cape Cod houses, and the prices range from $400,000 to well over $1.3 million. The ranch homes are priced closer to $400,000, with variations like raised ranches selling for over $600,000, while many colonials fall into the upper echelon of the price range. “East Greenwich is the premier community in the state of Rhode Island,” says Allen Gammons, a broker with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Commonwealth Real Estate who grew up in the area. “All the streets are very walkable and beautiful.”

Nearby parks, preserves and indoor recreation facilities
There aren’t many established parks in Frenchtown, but Frenchtown Park and the Fry Family Nature Preserve offer beautiful scenery for a day outdoors. Trails within the parks wind through the foliage, which turns into a spectacular fall showcase when the leaves change. Outside of Frenchtown, head just northwest to the Big River Management Area. The nature preserve encompasses trails, greenery and bodies of water. Visitors can trek through its more than 8,000 acres of space and enjoy rivers, wetlands and agricultural land as well. Even on rainy or cold-weather days, fear not: kids still have an outlet for their energy in Go Play, an indoor playground off of Route 2 in the northeast corner of Frenchtown. The facility includes equipment for ages up to 12, with those accompanying the children encouraged to participate as well, and a layout of mazes, slides, activities and more.

A number of entrances and exits for motorists
Two exits from Interstate 95 lead into East Greenwich and to Frenchtown, along with Routes 2 and 4 running north and south in the eastern part of the neighborhood. “You get the best of both worlds, Gammons says. “It’s very easy to get on Route 4 and Interstate 95, but when you get off the highway and head into the neighborhoods, you get the feeling of being more out in the country.”
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
