Suburban Neighborhood in Pennsylvania
Lancaster County 17520, 17601
East Petersburg is a pleasant suburban borough with an active community, a main street with local buzz and residential areas with a diverse mix of homes.
“East Petersburg has anything from 1800s colonials to brand new homes,” says Kathy Ross, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. “Prices range anywhere from $200,000 to $1 million, so there’s something for everyone.”
Much of East Petersburg is made up of single-family homes from the mid-1900s, including ranch-style and split-level houses on quarter-acre lots, selling for around $275,000 to $400,000. Late 19th-century and early 20th-century colonial-style homes are scattered around town approximately in the same price range, adding a touch of historic charm to the community. And then you have newer housing developments that modernize the borough with two-story contemporary craftsman-style houses, which sell for around $750,000 to $1 million. If a town house is more your style, you can get one with three bedrooms and 1,200 square feet of living space for around $200,000 to $250,000, or a 2,300 square-foot town house with an attached garage for about $300,000 to $325,000.
Main Street runs right through the middle of East Petersburg, where you can walk or take a short drive to all of the borough’s local businesses. “There’s a lot right at your fingertips,” says Ross, “Those who I’ve sold to love that you can walk to all the restaurants.” Head to Family Fare for a homey diner atmosphere and classic American breakfast, or grab a slice of pizza from Gargano’s. Both restaurants have been serving the community for decades. You also have newer establishments like Mad Chef Craft Brewing, which opened in 2015, where you can have fun playing trivia or listening to live music while enjoying delicious pub grub and craft beer. For everyday shopping needs, you’ll find several big box retailers three miles south in Lancaster.
Get some fresh air at East Petersburg Community Park, a community hub for local events such as East Petersburg Days. The multi-day event is held every September and draws the whole community to enjoy carnival rides, live music from a stage, fireworks and much more. That’s just one of the many festivities throughout the year. But on any given day, the park is a nice spot to play basketball and tennis with friends and for kids to play on the playground and ball fields. You can also work on your cardio on the paved looping trail at East Petersburg Community Fitness Park and work out at the outdoor exercise station.
When it comes to education, kindergarten through sixth-grade students attend East Petersburg Elementary School, rated a B by Niche. They go on to Centerville Middle School and Hempfield High School, both of which have an A- rating from Niche. The high school is ranked the 75th-best college prep public high school in the state and is renowned for its theater program, boasting a 1,300-seat Performing Arts Center.
From historic to brand-new homes, and longtime staple restaurants to hip breweries, East Petersburg blends the old with the new in one eclectic borough.
