A serene place to call home

While the Lake Valhalla neighborhood in Smithfield Township may lack Norse warriors, it manages to double down on the restful component. Lake views create a relaxing atmosphere, and towering trees provide privacy for each home. When the urge strikes to rejoin civilization, shopping and dining are nearby in downtown East Stroudsburg. “Lake Valhalla has small amenities like the playground and clubhouse,” says James Martin, a Realtor with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Wilkins & Associates, who has been selling homes for over 16 years. “It's also off 209, close to hospitals, shopping in East Stroudsburg and major travel arteries.”

1970s and '80s homes near the water

Lake Valhalla has been a quiet place to call home for decades. “There are all kinds of home styles there,” Martin says. “There are a few lots still available, but most of the homes have been around since the 1970s and '80s. The neighborhood has an HOA, but it’s not a gated area.” Colonial Revival, split-level and ranch architecture are most prominent, and prices range from $175,000 to $450,000. About four homes near the lake’s edge may see flooded lawns during extreme weather, but flooding isn’t a big concern for this area. Smithfield Township doesn’t allow short-term rentals, so residents don’t have to worry about many families coming and going, causing noise for a week while they vacation.
