Enjoy the great outdoors in the Apple Capital of the World
In 1908, inhabitants of Wenatchee, Washington built a narrow bridge across the Columbia River that connected it to a small town on the opposite shore, which later became known as East Wenatchee. Today the historic bridge is emblematic of the city’s history and its abundant nature and outdoor recreation – it’s now part of the Apple Capital Loop Trail, one of the most popular trail systems in the region.
“My favorite part about living here is getting to experience all four seasons,” says Realtor Elizabeth Doop of Windermere Real Estate, who was born and raised in Wenatchee. “I ski in the winter, cycle in the summer and the foliage is spectacular in the fall. There are some great trail systems here.”
Located about 150 miles east of Seattle, East Wenatchee is in the heart of Washington. It’s known for its natural beauty, its proximity to luxury ski resorts and for its many apple orchards that extend out beyond the city limits. Wenatchee, its next-door neighbor, is known as the Apple Capital of the World.

Parks, hikes and proximity to Pacific Northwest ski slopes
East Wenatchee is home to just over 14,000 residents and it has more than a dozen parks, including a mix of large sports complexes, pocket parks and an indoor aquatic center. It’s also an access point for Apple Capital Loop Trail, a 10-mile trek that meanders alongside the river before plunging deep into the countryside. The trail is popular in the summertime for hiking and jogging but is also known to attract cross-country skiers in the snowy months. Golfers will find a place to tee up at the Wenatchee Golf & Country Club and Highlander Country Club. Kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing and fishing are favorite pastimes along the Columbia River.

Diverse housing options, from midcentury to contemporary
East Wenatchee’s housing stock ranges widely from midcentury ranches and split-levels to brand-new luxury homes built into the hills in the outskirts of town. Because of this, prices can range from as low as $400,000 for an older two-bedroom to nearly $1 million for a grand, luxury property. “The big difference between Wenatchee and East Wenatchee is that East Wenatchee has all the new construction. It’s a mix, but it’s mostly single-family homes in large developments,” Doop says. Houses closer to the river are situated on smaller lots and offer a great starting point for a walk around the town. Those further out tend to be newer and spacious, but with less walkability.
