About Eastchester, NY

About Eastchester, NY

Family-orientated suburban town with access to amenities and outdoors

This charming Westchester County neighborhood is a popular location for singles and families alike. “The town is very convenient for commuting and recreation. Overall, it’s a large town that feels very small. Each village has its own community,” say Happy French-Zingaro, a Realtor with Houlihan Lawrence, Inc., who has lived in the area since 1998. The historic town began as a farming settlement in 1664. In the 1840s the railroad arrived, allowing Westchester residents to commute to the city. Eastchester’s appeal lies as much in its walkability factor — it’s close to shops, restaurants and has many tree-shaded side streets — as it does in its appeal to outdoor lovers. “Eastchester feels much more like a suburban neighborhood than surrounding areas like New Rochelle,” says French-Zingaro. The neighborhood has plenty of public parks, golf courses and country clubs.

From Cape Cods and split-levels to colonials on sizeable lots

“Most homes in Eastchester were built during the 1950s, although there are many older, pre-war homes as well. The majority of homes have been renovated and sit on decent-sized lots,” says French-Zingaro. While Cape Cods, colonials and split-levels are common throughout, some of the older homes include Georgians and Tudors. Generally, single-family homes are on residential, tree-lined streets with private driveways. Home prices can vary from $600,000 for a four-square style home with small addition to $4.5 million for a gracious Georgian-style home built in the 1920s. There are also many multi-family options in town, starting about $625,000 for a two-bedroom condominium to about $890,000 for a three-bedroom townhouse.

Farmers market at Village of Tuckahoe

The area is home to many shopping options. Most Eastchester residents can easily walk to a variety of nearby boutiques, merchants and businesses. In the summer and fall, the adjoining Village of Tuckahoe sponsors a farmers' market, which carries local produce and goods. There are as many dining options in the area as there are shopping choices. The Wicked Wolf North is an upscale bar/eatery that serves a variety of menu options from lobster rolls to lamb shanks. The Burrata Pizza serves wood-fired pizzas and Italian meals.
