There’s a ton to love about Easton. Realtor Isobel Wilson with Bella Real Estate notes that life in Easton has a small-town feel yet still offers many amenities, natural resources and opportunity for community involvement.
In terms of houses, Wilson says, “there is a great mix of old and newer homes, and they tend to be on larger parcels of land than you might find in surrounding areas.” You’ll see updated 1900s farmhouses going for about $700,000 on Lincoln Street and 1960s Capes fetching close to $650,000 on Gilmore Road. On Erin Place, there are stunning 1980s colonials on well-landscaped grounds priced around $1.2 million. You’ll also find newly built duplexes on Center Street and 1900s Victorian-style homes in the village section of North Easton.
Students in town are part of the highly rated Easton Public Schools, which received an A rating from Niche. Several elementary schools serve the youngest students in the district, including the new Blanche A. Ames Elementary. “The recent opening of this school has brought excellent facilities and resources for our students,” Wilson says. Students at Easton Middle School, rated A- by Niche, can participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, including Earth Squad, which is the school’s recycling club, and video club, through which students can create and edit movies. Oliver Ames High School has an active fine arts department that includes orchestra, theater and visual arts. High School visual artists can receive recognition as “amazing emerging artists” through the Massachusetts Art Educators Association. “Whether it’s musical theater, marching band or robotics teams, the Easton school system has something for everyone,” Wilson says.
There are also plenty of choices when it comes to the town’s recreational options. You can relax on a shaded bench at Frothingham Park while the kids enjoy the playground. Or take a stroll at Borderland State Park, an 1,800-acre nature preserve that surrounds the Ames Mansion. The Natural Resources Trust of Easton maintains a sheep pasture property where residents can walk along the reserve or participate in a nature camp. “These spots are easily accessible and enjoyed by all,” Wilson says. You can also visit the Children’s Museum of Easton which offers exhibits such as the Dinosaur Den and STEAM Lab, where children can discover the laws of motion and the properties of gravity.
Easton’s restaurant scene includes Maguire’s Bar & Grill which serves sandwiches, pizza and homemade potato chips. The Farmer’s Daughter is a popular farm-to-table spot owned by the daughter of a Maine potato farmer. If you’re in the mood for Italian fare, Leandro’s is a cozy eatery with a seasonal menu that includes salad, pasta and grilled entrees.
With all of the town’s amenities, such as parks, highway access to Boston and grocery stores, including Big Y World Class Market and Roche Bros., Wilson says the best feature of all is the town’s generous spirit. “This small town has a huge heart and many wonderful non-profits have been founded here.” A few of these organizations are Easton Food Pantry, School on Wheels Massachusetts and My Brother’s Keeper, a ministry that donates food and furniture to those in need. It’s clear that there’s a ton to love in Easton.
