Situated in central Edina, Lake Cornelia is sandwiched between a tranquil 58-acre lake and multiple upscale shopping centers. ”It’s got great proximity to France Avenue, where the Galleria and Southdale Mall are. They’re trendy, high-end destinations for shopping and restaurants,” says Greg Anderson, a broker at RE/MAX Advisors West with over 30 years of experience in the greater Minneapolis area. However, residents of Lake Cornelia can still get away from all the buzz. With parks within walking distance and homes on wooded lots, the neighborhood feels less like it’s on the cusp of a bustling retail area and more like a tucked-away lakeside glade.
Tall oaks stretch out over the wide, sloping streets, providing shade to large lawns and established homes. “Most of the houses here were built in the mid-century. There are a lot of longtime residents since it’s an area people really want to be in,” Anderson says. “You have families who’ve lived in their homes for decades and newer people who are coming in and buying remodeled houses.” A range of styles and sizes cater to different budgets, from ranch-style to split-level houses with three to six bedrooms. A 1,000-square-foot home could be listed at $420,000, but a renovated home with twice the square footage may sell for just over $1 million. The median house in Lake Cornelia costs around $815,000 and has 5 bedrooms.
Lake Cornelia, like the rest of Edina, is sought-after by families looking to send their kids to schools in the highly-rated Edina Public School District. Cornelia Elementary scores an A from Niche and is home to the Cornelia School Park, which features sports facilities and a hill popular for wintertime sledding. It’s just south of the neighborhood, so you can walk your little ones to school in the morning. South View Middle is also rated an A, and Edina High is rated an A-plus by Niche and has a student-teacher ratio of 20:1.
Rosland Park is within walking distance of many homes. Curving around Lake Cornelia’s wetlands, the park spans a scenic 22 aces of trails and lakeside boardwalks, where you can look for herons wading in the reeds or turtles sunbathing on a log. Kids can climb and slide on the park’s accessible playground, and friends can challenge each to a game other on the 9-hole disc golf course. During summer, you can cool off at the pool and pirate-themed waterpark in Rosland’s Edina Aquatic Center for a daily admission fee of $13. For indoor fun, the park’s Edina Art Center offers classes and workshops for youth and adults on topics ranging from oil painting to printmaking.
Local restaurants and regional chains stretch up and down France Avenue and within the nearby shopping centers just east of Lake Cornelia. If you have trouble deciding what to eat, try the Tavern on France, a restaurant with a chill vibe and a lengthy menu. Thanks to the fire pit, you can enjoy their outdoor patio even on chilly nights. Residents can also wake up in the morning with comforting breakfast classics from the Original Pancake House, known for its quaint, friendly atmosphere and extra-crispy hash browns.
With the Galleria and Southdale malls along France Avenue, you won't run out of shopping either. Head to the Galleria for a sleek, modern shopping center with upscale brand names in fashion and home products. Southdale Center also has a broader wealth of options, from department stores to specialty retailers. And for everyday needs, there’s a Target south of the Galleria where residents can grab groceries just 5 minutes from home.
With access to major state roads, you can get from Lake Cornelia to central Minneapolis in 15 minutes, whether for work or fun. If your travels take you further than the Twin Cities, you’re also only 10 miles from the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.
