Forested suburbs between Egg Harbor Township parks
Winding along its namesake avenue, English Creek is a wooded, residential enclave hidden on back roads between the BMX track, soccer fields and lakefront hiking paths of three major Egg Harbor Township parks. “A lot of people reference wanting to live east of Black Horse Pike, between there and Somers Point. Places like English Creek have a reputation for nice parks and newer subdivisions,” says James Boyle, a broker with Keller Williams Ocean City, NJ and shore real estate expert. Within a few miles of the fast-paced commercial district catching coast-bound traffic along Black Horse Pike and the crab-filled marshes along Great Egg Harbor River, English Creek enjoys proximity to everyday suburban comforts as well as the tidal creek topography unique to shore-hugging towns inland from New Jersey’s southern beaches.
Newer single-family subdivisions and 55 and older communities
Down English Creek Avenue, stands of trees are broken up by private driveways and entrances to tucked-away subdivisions. Outside of larger developments, housing styles range from 1960s ranch-style homes to custom-built New Traditional single-family homes from the 1990s, ranging from $300,000 to $690,000 depending on square footage, renovation levels and whether lots are closer to a quarter acre or upward of 4 acres. New Traditional single-family homes in styles ranging from Colonial Revival to farmhouse-inspired populate subdivisions like Sherwood Forest and Ballenger Woods which were built up over the 1990s through early 2000s, selling for $400,000 to $790,000 depending on age, square footage, luxury renovations and lot size. Residents who are 55 and older may choose to live in manufactured homes that sell for $30,000 to $300,000 in the Oak Forest II community or opt for New Traditional Craftsman homes built in the past 20 years that sell for $370,000 to $500,000 in the Village Grande at English Mill community.
Many developments of large, single homes are sprouting up throughout English Creek.
Smaller, single homes in English Creek often feature two-car garages.

Egg Harbor Township parks, golf clubs and marsh access
Among the parks in English Creek, Egg Harbor Township Nature Reserve is one of the best loved, offering miles of trails that pass through oak-pine forests and vistas of the central lake where kayakers explore small islands and anglers seek out bass along the shores. Youth township soccer club games and tennis lessons are held in the fields and on the courts at Tony Canale Park. A few miles away, niche athletes make use of a BMX track and three street hockey courts at Veterans Memorial Park. “Egg Harbor Township’s street hockey has really been catching on. They’re not asphalt courts, it’s this plastic decking tile which lets the ball move really fast. The Chipmunks team goes from when they’re young, around 6 years old, and then there’s older teams into high school. They do a lot of tournaments. It seems to be growing,” Boyle says.
Golfers can play 18-hole games at Ballamor Golf Club or Twisted Dune Golf Club, both of which are public courses. A few miles east, both Thompson Marine and Seaport Marina offer storage and docking services, launching boaters into the Great Egg Harbor River and winding estuaries and salt marshes of the Tuckahoe-Corbin City Fish and Wildlife Management Area. Though beachgoers may disagree on whether the water is better in Atlantic City or Ocean City, South Jersey’s shoreline is a 10- to 15-mile drive from English Creek.

Shopping and dining at English Creek Shopping Center
A few miles up English Creek Avenue, the English Creek Shopping Center is a strip-mall style commercial center surrounded by the stand-alone retailers, fast food restaurants and AtlantiCare Health Care facilities that line Black Horse Pike. Big box anchors like ShopRite, Lowe’s and Aldi are joined by casual sit-down eateries serving global cuisines, ranging from the Vietnamese specialties at Pho Cali to the crab-centric bar fare served at Chickie’s & Pete’s. A much quieter commercial district at the intersection of English Creek and Ocean Heights avenues is marked by a Wawa and English Creek's main takeout spot, Primo Pizza. A handful of churches, including Solid Rock United Pentecostal Church, hold services in the area.
