Quiet, suburban living in North Eight Mile
Residents appreciate the quiet in North Eight Mile, an unincorporated community in Mobile County, surrounded by acres of forest and the winding paths of Chickasaw and Eight Mile creeks. “There is definitely a rural feel to this area,” says Beth Abbott, who has sold over 60 homes in the area with Power Real Estate. “It’s a great area for people who want the small town feel and want to have a large plot of land.” North Eight Mile is 3 miles from Semmes and 15 miles from downtown Mobile, offering easy access to recreation and retail opportunities. Very few businesses in the area are owned by outside corporate entities. “There are new small businesses like locally-owned mechanic shops and cleaning companies moving in,” Abbott says. Realtor Jennifer Ballard with Bellator Real Estate agrees with Abbott. "The growth in this area is huge," Ballard says. Ballard has been selling homes in Mobile for nearly a decade. "Couple with the cost of living here, it's becoming very desirable for buyers."

Ranch-style homes dot much of North Eight Mile's map
In North Eight Mile, houses sit on large lots, shaded by large, mature trees. Driveways jet off the main roads, providing private parking space and separation from the busier streets. Most homes are ranch-style, with prices ranging from $100,000 to $235,000. Buyers occasionally find a few larger new traditional homes sitting on more than two acres, with prices ranging between $500,000 and $700,000. There are also plenty of lots for sale for buyers who would like the opportunity to build their own dream home. “Compared to neighborhoods closer to downtown Mobile, North Eight Mile is a good place for a first-time buyer because the prices are lower,” Abbott says.
