An upper valley golf community with stand-out greenery

Built around the El Paso Country Club—among the ten oldest golf clubs in Texas—the Country Club community is widely considered El Paso’s most upscale neighborhood, with some of the custom-built estates here commanding prices of over $1 million. The Rio Grande and its historic canal systems play a part in the lush landscape while the surrounding Franklin Mountains serve as a backdrop. “El Paso is the desert, so greenery is understandably coveted in the city because it’s hard to come by,” explains local agent Mike Santamaria of Saint Rogers Realty. “Major draws here are the mature trees and well-maintained grass.”

Sprawling Spanish-style homes with acreage

Custom-built ranch-style and Spanish-Revival homes here were constructed between the 1960s and ‘80s, though the neighborhood has evolved to include contemporary and mid-century modern influences over the years. Ranch-style properties here start between $500,000 and $550,000; higher priced homes (often custom-built with Spanish-inspired details) start around $1.1 million and can reach up to $1.5 million. Spacious lots spanning an acre or more impact property values, as do renovations and modern amenities. Unlike most properties in El Paso’s arid climate, Country Club homes typically maintain grassy front lawns rather than drought-resistant landscaping.

Major renovations at Coronado High

Local students can start school at Zach White Elementary, which earns an A-minus from Niche, then continue to the B-minus rated Brown Middle. Coronado High earns an A minus and comes equipped with nearly $70 million in campus improvements. Coronado was one of the first schools in the state to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which is highly regarded for college preparation, personal development and preparing them for higher education.

Multi-use paths along the Rio Grande

Golfers swing across El Paso Golf Club’s historic course, established in 1906 and stretching nearly 6,800 yards. Each September, Sunland Swingtime tournament draws competitors to the public course with challenging putting greens. Adjacent tennis courts host matches while the club pool refreshes swimmers during hot El Paso days. The developing Riverpark Trail System runs along the Rio Grande, connecting with nature while following the famous waterway. Scenic paths wind through the river corridor, providing routes for exercise and leisure. While residents have to cross the border into New Mexico to get there, the Sunland Park Sports Complex offers a skate park and water park about 4 miles away.

Mexican food and shopping on Mesa Street

Mesa Street is lined with retail and grocery options like Hobby Lobby’s extensive craft selection, Food King’s cost-plus pricing and Sam’s Club. Tacos Chinampa serves up al pastor tacos along the same road, and Ay Caramba offers sit-down Mexican dining with dishes like queso fundido. About 3 miles from Country Club, Cinemark West movie theater features immersive ScreenX technology that transforms movies into 270-degree experiences.

Getting around El Paso

The main route from Country Club to downtown El Paso is Interstate 10, leading southeast to the city center. Other major roadways serving the area include Doniphan Drive (US 20), which runs parallel to the Rio Grande, Borderland Road to the north, and Sunland Park Drive to the south. University Medical Center of El Paso is the main hospital in the area. For air travel, El Paso International Airport (ELP) is located on the eastern side of the city, offering flights through major airlines including American, United and Alaska Airlines.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
