Longstanding residents welcome student neighbors

Rim-University, located on the outskirts of El Paso along Rim Road, offers a distinct blend of urban, suburban and rural feels. The community is characterized by its adjacency to the 430-acre University of Texas at El Paso campus (UTEP), sprawling across the West Texas desert. Many off-campus students reside in the neighborhood’s duplexes, apartments and condos. Longtime residents and students coexist harmoniously within the community. “Our neighbors are welcoming, they never make the college students feel like a burden,” says former UTEP student Jocelyn Brito. “The neighborhood will throw parades and special events and we’re always welcome to stop by. The community is really warm.”

Classic El Paso architecture and low-effort yard maintenance

The Rim-University neighborhood displays a broad variety of historical architecture like adobe and Spanish Colonial style, emblematic of El Paso’s origins. The University of El Paso itself is a rare example of Bhutanese architecture, donning sloping walls and mosaic-tiled mandalas. Homes on the outer portion of the neighborhood have stunning views of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Along Robinson Avenue, also on the periphery of Rim-University, there are several brick-built Tudor Revival homes to recall another era known for its charming architecture. Yard maintenance is simple here, as most lots feature rock gardens and low-water plantings. Prices in this neighborhood range from anywhere between $200,000 to $1.6 million.
