Sandstone Ranch Estates is a residential neighborhood with a military presence
Sandstone Ranch Estates is part of Northeast El Paso’s resurgence over the last two decades. Filled with homes built in the 2000s and 2010s, the neighborhood has helped spur the region's development, as restaurants and green spaces have cropped up around residential areas. It has a sizable military presence as it is close to Fort Bliss, but its amenities appeal to a wide range of people. “It’s a lot of well-built, 2,000-square-foot homes,” says Allison Dillard, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty. “And if you like to mountain bike, you’re in one of the best spots for it.”
Mediterranean-influenced homes with streets suitable for jogging and biking
Mediterranean-influenced multilevel homes with stucco and brick siding are found throughout the neighborhood. These houses often range from $200,000 to $450,000. They are placed along wide streets lined with sidewalks on both sides, giving the neighborhood’s joggers and bike riders plenty of space. Most homes come with two-car garages and have gravel front yards in place of grass, though they can still feature bushes or small trees. The Reserve at Sandstone Ranch is a private complex with apartments for rent.
The El Paso Independent School District and an elementary robotics program
Students are served by the El Paso Independent School District. They can attend Tom Lea Elementary School, which holds a B-plus Niche grade. It offers a Snapology “Creature Creator Robotics” program where children learn about machines and programming in order to build animal-inspired models. Richardson Middle School has a B score, and Andress High School earns a C-plus.
Access to U.S. Route 54 and Fort Bliss
The community is bordered by U.S. Route 54. Downtown is around 15 miles south, as is El Paso International Airport. Fort Bliss is about 10 miles away. Sun Metro operates a public bus system that makes several stops along Sean Haggerty Drive. Dust storms can occur in March and early April, lowering visibility while driving. “You can see the mountains from everywhere here, but in one of those storms, it's like they’re not even there,” Dillard says. The area can experience extreme heat in the summer, with temperatures reaching 105 degrees or higher.
Mountain biking trails, playgrounds and skateparks are close
The neighborhood is a few miles from Woodrow Bean Transmountain Drive, one of the city’s popular biking spots. It runs through Franklin Mountains State Park, which offers views of the city. “Cyclists like to charge the mountain on the way up, then glide on the way down,” Dillard says. Sandstone Ranch Estates Park has a playground, shaded tables and a large green space. Nearby, Joey Barraza and Vino Memorial Park contains baseball diamonds, a dog park and Northeast Regional Skatepark among other amenities. To the south, Veterans Park also has a skatepark, plus a playground and ball fields. It also has a recreation center with an indoor pool, exercise equipment and basketball and volleyball courts. The community is around 3 miles from Painted Dunes Desert Golf Course, which has 27 holes spread over three sections.
Varied local restaurants and retail shopping at North Hills Crossing
Ardovino’s Pizza is an El Paso chain that has served the city since 1961. Tin Man is a “filling station” with craft beer and cider as well as branded growlers. Ling’s Foodie Hub offers Chinese and Japanese entrees. La Estrella Meat Market & Kitchen sells several cuts of meat, plus hot food and freshly baked goods. The closest retail stores are around 2 miles west in North Hills Crossing shopping center, home to Walmart Neighborhood Market, Marshalls and Ross Dress for Less among others.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
