Travis White is a residential East El Paso neighborhood with the whole city accessible
In the East El Paso neighborhood of Travis White, residents get access to the city’s sought-after amenities while living in a quiet community. "We’re in the heart of El Paso,” says Belinda Duran, a Realtor with Home Sweet Home whose office is along Montwood Drive, the area’s northern border. “This is accessible to everywhere. It’s one of the most desirable places because of its location, and its price points are reasonable.” Downtown El Paso and other entertainments are just a few miles away, but residents can also choose to stay local and eat at one of the area’s restaurants or spend a day enjoying nearby green spaces.
Ranch-style homes with two-car garages and attics are commonly found
The neighborhood has many ranch-style homes built in the 1970s. These homes can list between $350,000 and $475,000. Homes along Buckwood Drive tend to be more expensive. Diana Torres-McCann, a Realtor with Vision Realty, says area houses often come with two-car garages and many have attics, which is getting more difficult to find in El Paso. Front lawns are uncommon, though residents usually have trees or small bushes in their yards. Sidewalks wind throughout the community, allowing for easy walking to parks, schools and restaurants. “It’s becoming more family-focused,” says Tracie Musshorn, a Realtor with Majestic Realty. “It used to be an older population. My grandmother lived around here. But now when people sell, it is usually a family that moves into the neighborhood.”
Local restaurants with varied cuisines and retail shopping at The Fountains at Farah
Papa Eric’s Burgers, in the community’s northwest corner, is a local chain serving classic American hamburgers and sides. Grandy’s has Southern-style entrees, while El Barco Marinero specializes in seafood. For fine dining, residents often head to nearby Thirty 5ive Tavern & Grill. General manager Linda Lugo says the restaurant's Thirty 5ive combo — a filet with jalapeno- and bacon-wrapped shrimp — is ordered often, and its raspberry martini is a big hit.
Other restaurants and shops are located south of the neighborhood in shopping centers like Yarbrough Plaza, which has an El Super grocery store and a Ross Dress for Less among its tenants. On Wedgewood Drive, Uptown Cheapskate Fashion Exchange is a popular thrift store aimed at young adults. Just west of the neighborhood is The Fountains at Farah, an upscale shopping and dining center, and Cielo Vista Mall.
Country music at Way Out West Festival and El Paso Chihuahuas minor league baseball
Plenty of events take place within a few miles of Travis White. The Amigo Airsho, held at nearby Fort Bliss, has aerial performers doing stunts, plus food trucks and vendors. In downtown El Paso, Southwest University Park is the home of the El Paso Chihuahuas minor league baseball team and El Paso Locomotive FC, a USL Championship soccer team. The annual Way Out West Festival is a celebration of country music that includes a chili cook-off, a margarita competition and other events.Residents can also spend a day at the El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens, less than 10 miles away. The zoo gets nearly 350,000 annual visitors, and many of them come to see its Asia and Africa exhibits, says marketing coordinator Oscar Arriaga. "It's a place for children and families to be exposed to animals they would never encounter otherwise unless they take a safari trip," Arriaga says. The zoo's greater one-horned rhino, Taj, is an especially big hit.

The high school earns an A-minus rating. Nearby, the private Jesus Chapel School, for kindergarten through 12th grade, also has an A-minus score.
Disc golf at Travis White Park and traditional sports at Reece McCord Park
The neighborhood is centered around Travis White Park, which has a disc golf course and a playground among its amenities. About 2 miles north of the community is Eastwood Park, also known as Album Park, which has a skate park and a recreation center. Around a mile east is Reece McCord Park, home to baseball, soccer and basketball facilities. For indoor entertainment, the Cinemark movie theater at nearby Cielo Vista Mall shows the latest blockbusters alongside independent films.
Interstate 10 takes residents downtown in just a few minutes
Interstate 10 runs south of the neighborhood. The road can take residents around 10 miles into downtown El Paso. Northwest of the community, El Paso International Airport is just over 5 miles away. Torres-McCann says it is possible for Travis White residents to get to any point in the city within 20 minutes. "We're very spoiled," Torres-McCann says. "If there's bumper-to-bumper traffic, it lasts for maybe 5 minutes." Sun Metro operates public transportation in the city; five bus stops sit along Wedgewood Avenue, connecting residents to the rest of El Paso. Del Sol Medical Center, a full-service hospital with a Level II trauma designation, is around a mile from the community.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
