About Elberta, AL

Small town living on Wolf Bay

Elberta is off the beaten path to the beaches on the Alabama coast, but the small, quiet town does attract visitors with an annual German festival and access to Wolf Bay. "German settlers established the community," says Realtor Jeremy Sullivan with Re/Max Paradise, who has sold homes for nearly 20 years. "That's reflected in the German sausage festival, which they have twice a year, every year." The community is now a tranquil town where residents know their neighbors, but it continues growing. "It's a small community, and there's a mix of waterfront property on Wolf Bay and farmland, but we're growing and thriving. There were 400 people when I moved there, and now there are over 2,000. It's awesome."

Elberta Kids Park is next to the town square. It offers a small playground with swings, climbing structures and a seesaw. The park is about a block from a set of baseball diamonds for Little League and school baseball games. In between the two is Elberta Town Park, which has a spacious green and a pavilion available to rent. Elberta is close to Wolf Bay, Soldier's Creek and Palmetto Creek, which Sullivan notes are essential to the community. "We do a lot of boating and fishing, watersports and other leisure activities," says Sullivan. "Elberta residents usually spend more time relaxing on the bay than down by the beach." Sullivan notes that for those who wish to spend time by the beach, the Gulf of Mexico is 20 miles, or about a 25-mile drive.
