Elfers is a Pasco County community with changing demographics and easy access to several cities
Sitting between several cities, the census-designated place of Elfers is an attractive option for residents of all kinds. Once known for its retirement communities, the area is becoming more diverse. “It’s a family-friendly neighborhood, but more young people have started to move that way,” says Cory Byrd, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker F.I. Grey & Son Residential Inc. Elfers’ location near Tarpon Springs and New Port Richey provides easy opportunities for entertainment, and day trips to larger cities like Clearwater, Tampa and St. Petersburg are also possible. The area wants to take advantage of its changing demographics and add amenities that keep people close to home. The residential Pasco County community of about 17,000 sees some people work in the retail trade and healthcare fields, though most commute to one of Elfers’ neighboring cities.

While chain restaurants are found all over, there are also local joints like Madison Restaurant, which has served American and Greek fare for more for than a decade. Big-box stores like Bealls can be found just outside of the community. “There’s so much growth, it’s just booming,” Byrd says. “The city itself is putting money into getting more businesses out there, but it’s still quiet and spread out compared to Tampa and Clearwater.”
