Northwest Harborcreek features 20th-century homes

Most homes in Northwest Harborcreek were built from the 1950s through the early 1990s. Traditional ranch-style, split-level and Cape Cod-style houses feature two-to-four bedrooms and typically sell for around $175,000 to $330,000. Tree-lined lots average just over a third of an acre, and many properties feature spacious patios or decks. Newer construction includes the Northview Heights subdivision, where prices for New Traditional homes built through the early 2020s range from about $375,000 to $600,000. Dual enrollment program at Harbor Creek Senior High School

Students may attend the Harbor Creek School District, which earns a B-plus from Niche and has an average student-teacher ratio of 13-to-1. Elementary school zones change each year depending on student enrollment numbers, and kids in kindergarten through sixth grade can attend Rolling Ridge Elementary School, Klein Elementary School or Clark Elementary School. All three schools earn an A-minus from Niche. Harbor Creek Junior High School scores a B-minus, while Harbor Creek Senior High School earns a B. The senior high school’s dual enrollment program allows teens to earn college credit from Penn State Behrend, Mercyhurst University, Gannon University and Edinboro University. Alternatively, students in kindergarten through 12th grade can enroll in the Harbor Creek Cyber Academy, which partners with the Warren Area School District to offer online curriculum and instruction.

Pickleball courts and summer concerts at Whitford Park

Bordering Six Mile Creek, Whitford Park features pickleball and basketball courts, a ballfield and a playground. The green space also has several covered pavilions where residents gather for the annual Whitford Park Summer Concert Series. Less than 3 miles east is the Harborcreek Community Park, an outdoor sports complex with two soccer fields, 12 ballfields and a football field home to the Harborcreek Little Gridders, a youth football team for kids in third through sixth grade. Residents can also head north to the shores of Lake Erie, where Shades Beach Park features wooded hiking trails, a public boat launch and a sandy beachfront known for its vibrant sunsets. Golfers are less than a 5-mile drive from Harbor Ridge Golf Course and the Lawrence Park Golf Club. Harbor Ridge features a semi-private 9-hole course, while membership at the Lawrence Park Golf Club comes with access to an 18-hole golf course along the lakefront. About 12 miles away is Presque Isle State Park, a sandy peninsula that curves into Lake Erie and attracts 4 million visitors each year with its beaches, hiking trails and marina. “We used to boat up there. It’s probably the biggest attraction in the whole state,” says Seth Tuttle, a Realtor with Re/Max who has sold several homes in Northwest Harborcreek.

Events at the Harborcreek Municipal Building

The township hosts seasonal events at the Harborcreek Municipal Building. Halloween brings HarborCreep Nights to the community, a weekend-long celebration featuring a haunted house, local food trucks and live music. Neighbors gather again in December for Light Up Night, a festive evening complete with horse-drawn carriage rides, s’mores and Christmas carols sung by the Harbor Creek High School Vocal Ensemble.

For dessert, residents can head to the walk-up window at The Double Dipper and choose from over 15 different flavors of ice cream. For groceries, Price Rite in the Price Rite Plaza is just one of several supermarkets along Buffalo Road. Northwest Harborcreek is also located just outside Lake Erie Wine Country, which stretches 53 miles between Silver Creek, New York and Harborcreek. Boutique wineries like 6 Mile Cellars are just a 2-mile drive away, and residents can sample local wines sourced from Pennsylvania’s own vineyards.

U.S. Route 20 connects residents to downtown Erie

With U.S. Route 20 bisecting Northwest Harborcreek, residents are just a 5-mile drive from downtown Erie and a 13-mile drive from the Erie International Airport. The highway also provides access to major thoroughfares such as Interstate 90. The Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority, abbreviated as the EMTA and known locally as “the e,” provides bus service to the community, covering destinations that include downtown Erie.
