Best known for its namesake park's sprawling woodlands, this Seattle town is the natural respite you've been searching for. South Forest Park is one of the most arborous neighborhoods in Everett. The town's meandering roads climb alpine hillsides thickly lined with firs and cedars. In elevated areas, blue mountain vistas show through the neighborhood's needly evergreen peaks. "South Forest Park is a hidden gem with a view," says Becky Sommers, Broker at Kelly Right RE of Seattle.

Rustic ramblers, spacious split levels and cozy cottages line these heavily forested residential roads. Properties start around $450,000 for a 1,000-square-foot ranch home and reach $800,000 for an extra-spacious spot. You'll also find lots for sale in South Forest Park for those buyers interested in building a bespoke design. "There's a lot of housing diversity here," Sommers notes. The housing market is competitive here, and the average home sells within a week or two.

Kids living in Forest Park can attend Jackson Elementary, which is walkable for some locals, before they continue to North Middle and Everett High, the first in the district. In 2023, each public school earned a B score from Niche. Erected in 1909, Everett High is a historic landmark, a large, stately building crowned with decorative molding. Many students take classes in the Little Theater downtown and the Everett Civic Auditorium across the street for a change of scenery. There are also several nearby faith-based schools for South Forest Park families who are considering an alternative education path.

A Puget Sound tributary juts into Everett's west side, abounding with maritime activities and waterside relaxation opportunities. Head to the scenic Howarth Park for a day outdoors, where you can bring your furry friends to let them splash on the rocky beaches. Forest Park is the neighborhood's gathering place, a common area where the kids can run on the playground and splash pad while others navigate the wooded trails. The South Forest Park neighborhood also meets monthly at the church down the street to stay connected and informed.

You can find chain grocers and big box stores in town for your weekly shops. Local haunts sparsely pattern the main drag, and locals rave about El Mariachi's birria tacos, often cited as the best in town. Mikie's is a long-time neighborhood staple, serving your diner food favorites like chili dogs and malts in nostalgic retro digs. You can use the drive-through to pick up a meal to go if you're short on time. White Buffalo Saloon is the local watering hole where you can play pool while you snack on bar food and sip on a frosty pint.

The Everett Clinic Primary Care Center is convenient for medical professionals, and opportunity knocks in downtown Everett, the region's economic engine and a rich cultural enclave, pulsing with a thriving collection of eclectic small businesses. Boeing is another major in-town employer, a 5-mile ride away. The commuter rail is nearby, and you can catch a RapidRide bus at any stop around the town's perimeter. Downtown Seattle is roughly 30 miles away from office commuters. "I think this area is kind of a secret. It has so much flavor and quirkiness with unbeatable proximity," Sommers notes. These woodsy landscapes could be perfect for those escaping dense city life or relocators seeking convenience, privacy and moderate temperatures year-round. Welcome home to South Forest Park.
