A rural lifestyle along the Taunton River

The Camp Merriwood/Camp Welch neighborhood straddles the villages of Assonet and Berkley on Massachusetts’ South Shore. The Assonet Neck, a peninsula carved out by the Taunton River, the Assonet River and Assonet Bay, makes up a large part of the region. The neighborhood also includes Camp Welch, one of the oldest summer camps in the United States that sits on over 165 acres of wooded property. The rural, riverside landscape attracts residents to the bucolic, spread-out lifestyle of Camp Merriwood/Camp Welch, while staying connected to modern-day conveniences. “It’s a sleepy neighborhood,” says Joe Malloch, broker with Proline Realty Inc. “Camp Welch is very rural, very much country, but it’s closer to the highway, so still close to all the things you need.” In addition to quick access to Route 24, the neighborhood also has a CAP Index crime score of 1 out of 10, compared to the national score of 4.

Spread-out waterfront properties and New England architecture

New England architecture, including colonials and Cape Cods, is common among larger properties, along with custom-built estates with over 5,000 square feet erected in the last 20 years. Depending on waterfront access and location, these can fetch between $650,000 and $1.6 million.
