The renovations include a ninja warrior obstacle course, the second one in the state. “We saw it as just a unique opportunity to do something completely different and promote physical activity,” says Nathan Dasey, the Director of Florence County Parks and Recreation. “It’s meant for adults and teenagers to give them more physical activity options.” In addition to the course, the park includes a walking track, a playground and an amphitheater for small community concerts. High Hill Creek Bike and Run Club is an outdoor bike park about a mile from Brookgreen Park. Mountain bike riders appreciate the four-mile park for its beginner to intermediate-level trails through the trees and dense brush.

Early college program at Wilson High School
Students can start at Lucy T. Davis Elementary, a B-plus-graded school by Niche. Lucy T Davis Elementary received the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse School honor in 2021, awarding schools nationwide for meeting various criteria, including curriculum and student support. Williams Middle School receives a B from Niche and is known for its STEAM courses. STEAM allows students to participate in various courses, such as robotics, design and medical detectives. Brookgreen Park sits less than a mile from Highway 52, which has several chain eateries like Ruby Tuesday and Cracker Barrel. Quincy’s Family Steakhouse serves ribeye, shrimp and grilled chicken with an all-you-can-eat buffet. Visitors give high marks for the salad bar. The neighborhood is about a mile from the Pee Dee State Farmer Market, a year-round market that attracts people across the eastern seaboard, with more than 700,000 visitors annually. “The Pee Dee State Farmers Market offers produce and weekend activities that are free,” says Heather Keffer, the marketing and communications manager at VisitFlo. “You don’t even have to get out of your car with the drive-thru.” A couple of miles further south of Highway 52 is the commercial region of West Florence, where residents will find big-name retailers like Walmart and Target, along with grocery stores Aldi, Food Lion and Harris Teeter.

Easy access to Interstate 95
Brookgreen Park has no public transportation options in the community; however, it offers access to main roadways and Interstate 95. Cashua Drive leads straight into the commercial areas of West Florence, which includes malls, restaurants and other shops, about 4 miles away. Highway 52 and Interstate 95 sit a couple of blocks from the neighborhood, with Highway 52 taking commuters into Downtown Florence, about 3 miles away. Downtown also has McLeod Regional Medical Center, the local hospital. Florence Regional Airport is about 6 miles from the neighborhood and a few miles east of downtown.
