Tall oak trees are spaced throughout the neighborhood. Front yards more than 36 feet long sit between the roads and the front doors. Narrow roadways with no sidewalks leave little room for street parking. However, most homes include a driveway or a garage.

Outdoor exploring and trails at Jeffries Creek Park
Highland Park sits next to Jeffries Creek Park, a 55-acre, wetlands-and wooded area around Jeffries Creek. Between Edisto Drive and DeBerry Boulevard, the park features several natural trails, playgrounds and a picnic area with tables and shelter. North of the park is Florence Country Club, which includes an 18-hole golf course that hosts different tournaments, as well as group days for members and their guests. The Country Club also has tennis courts, a pool, a fitness center and a formal dining area. Skyzone Trampoline Park offers several colorful trampolines and amusement obstacles indoors. A few miles down the road from the trampoline park is Greenwood Athletic Park, a complex with several sports fields, playgrounds and walking paths. "We have five fields, several tennis and pickleball courts and an all-inclusive playground. It's a great place for locals and tourists," says Nathan Dawsey, the Director of Florence County Parks and Recreation.

Rebel Pie is popular for pizza
Sitting close to home is Little China, a modest Chinese restaurant that also offers dishes like chicken wings and scallops. Neighborhood residents can travel down 2nd Loop Road toward the growing commercial districts of South Florence for retail and dining. Locals Grill serves hamburgers, hotdogs, and other American food staples at crowd-pleasing prices. Rebel Pie is a local favorite eatery, serving wood-fired Neapolitan Pizza and craft beers. Freeman’s Bakery is known for its birthday cakes and other sweet treats. Two Food Lion grocery stores and a Lambs produce market are nearby. Briggs Elementary School is graded a B-plus and is also ranked the third-best public school in the county by Niche. Briggs is within walking distance from the northern edge of the neighborhood, sitting about 1 mile across Jeffries Creek. The next stop is Southside Middle School, which receives a B-minus from Niche. Southside is known for its distinguished arts program supporting various visual and performing arts. South Florence High School earns a B-plus from Niche and has its own Fine Arts Academy, dedicated to providing opportunities to students with a passion for the arts.
Bus stops and a short drive to downtown
Highland Park – like the majority of Florence – is primarily car-dependent. There are a couple of bus stops along 2nd Loop Road, at Marsh Avenue and in front of the Food Lion. Commuters have a 4-mile drive to Downtown Florence. Regency Hospital Florence is the nearest medical facility, about two and a half miles west on 2nd Loop Road. Florence Regional Airport sits about 6 miles away, just beyond downtown.
