Subdivisions with a wide range of homes

Sidewalks line the wide streets that wind through Shadow Ridge’s many subdivisions. Like the rest of Flower Mound, oak trees and other native species fill the communities. This is partially because of the town’s Urban Forestry Program, which hopes to protect native and healthy trees. Most of the neighborhood was built after the 1990s, reflected in the modern traditional homes that fill the area. Prices vary across Shadow Ridge. In Towne View Estates and Flower Mound Farms, a four- or five-bedroom house can cost $800,000 to $1.2 million, while properties in Creekside at Heritage Park can range from $650,000 to $850,000. Home prices for the rest of the community fall between $425,000 and $675,000. Some townhouses in the south were built in the late 2010 and 2020s. A two-bedroom can cost $425,000 to $450,000, while a three-bedroom can range from $450,000 to $525,000.

Parks fill Shadow Ridge

Community members in Shadow Ridge can enjoy many of Flower Mound’s parks. Heritage Park is the largest park in the area, spanning almost 43 acres. “Heritage Park caters to people with younger kids,” Wise says. This is mainly because of the vast array of recreational options, ranging from a splash pad and the Fort Wildflower Playground to a disc golf course and a trail that passes a waterfall. It is next to the Hound Mound Dog Park, which has separate spaces for large and small dogs. There are many more parks in and around Shadow Ridge, including its namesake, Shadow Ridge Park, where residents spend their afternoons. “That part of Flower Mound is small enough so people might not just go to the neighborhood parks,” Wise says. “They’ll go everywhere.” The Flower Mound Public Library is about 4 miles away and hosts a variety of clubs. At the library’s Creation Lab, patrons can reserve machines like 3D printers or embroidery machines.

Duck Derby and holiday events

There is a full calendar of events hosted throughout the town of Flower Mound. Wise is a member of the Cross Timbers Rotary Club, which puts on the Rhythms at the Riverwalk every fall. Attendees walk through food trucks and vendor booths, stopping to enjoy live music that plays throughout Riverwalk. “People can go from band to band,” Wise says. The highlight of the day is the Duck Derby, where 30,000 rubber ducks are released into the water and float across the finish line. Folks “adopt” a duck beforehand and cheer for their duck to cross the finish line first. The first 10 ducks win a prize. “It’s great for people of all ages,” Wise says. The town also comes together for the holidays, lining the streets to watch the annual Christmas parade or gathering at Independence Fest on the Fourth of July for live music and a fireworks display.
