Just east of the state capital, Jackson, Flowood is a thriving suburban city in Mississippi home to about 10,000 residents. The population here has grown by 30 percent since 2010. As one of the fastest-growing areas in greater Jackson, Flowood offers comfortable modern homes, commercial districts, medical facilities and ample recreation. "There are a lot of thriving new developments in the area," says Victoria Prowant, a managing broker at Southern Homes Real Estate. "The highways make it easy to get around the city, but Flowood itself, especially the nicer neighborhoods, has more of a woodsy feel."
As for work, Flowood has no shortage of nearby job opportunities. "There are several office buildings in Flowood, but the majority of people are working in Jackson," says Steve Houck, the broker and owner of Real Estate Partners. "About 20 miles north of the city is a huge Nissan motor plant and an Amazon distribution center. Amazon is also building a $10 billion data center just north of the city."

New construction homes in planned subdivisions
"Flowood is mostly new construction," Houck says. "A couple of huge developments are starting there. It's booming." Many homes in Flowood sit in well-planned subdivisions. "Most homes are local builders, which means the quality is better." The median home price in Flowood is about $400,000, significantly higher than the Jackson median home price of $125,000.
