Northgate is set front-and-center to the growing heart of the city
Surrounded by the San Bernardino Mountains and set on the major Foothill Boulevard, Northgate is a Fontana suburb featuring two-story older homes at lower prices than many other areas of the Inland Empire. The average home price here is about $550,00 compared to the Inland Empire's average of $650,000. There are several nearby grocery stores and one neighborhood park, and several major freeways are within 10 miles, including Interstates 15 and 210.
Downtown Fontana is just south of Northgate and slated for revitalization as a dining and entertainment center—but isn't quite there yet. “As it stands today, there aren’t a lot of immediate shopping and dining options downtown,” says Javier Ramirez, Re/Max Top Producers Broker with 20 years of experience in the region. "Rancho Cucamonga and Ontario offer a lot more options, between Victoria Gardens and Ontario Mills." Both of these major shopping malls are within 7 miles of the neighborhood.
Retro homes set side-by-side
Northgate was developed as a planned community in the 1980s, its residential streets laid out on a grid and lined with close-set homes and manicured lawns. The two-to-four-bedroom homes here date to the '80s and '90s and are either single-story ranch-style or two-story Craftsman- and Spanish-style; some have carports, while others have attached two-car garages. The ranch-style homes range from $400,000 to $450,000, while the Craftsman-style homes range from $600,000 to $700,000; lot sizes range between 4,000 and 5,000 square feet. Northgate's average home price is $563,000, compared to $668,000 in Fontana as a whole, $715,000 in Riverside and $844,000 in Corona.

Downtown Fontana is slated for revitalization
The closest shopping and dining are found along Foothill Boulevard. Mexican grocer Cardenas Markets, Family Dollar and Walgreens are right in the neighborhood, and nearby eateries include Fresh Wok, a local counter-service Chinese restaurant, and Pancho Villa’s Fresh Grill, Tequila and Entertainment, which offers traditional Mexican fare and live mariachi music. A couple of miles east, there's a Smart & Final, Stater Bros. Markets and a Walmart. Each Sunday in Downtown Fontana, a local farmers market is held at Fontana Park.
About 5 miles away, indoor Ontario Mills is a huge outlet mall with over 200 stores and restaurants. The sprawling Victoria Gardens mall is 7 miles away in Rancho Cucamonga, including Macy's, an Apple Store and a Fleming's Steakhouse, as well as an AMC multi-plex.
Closer to Northgate, the revitalization of Downtown Fontana is underway. The City of Fontana plans to turn the now-quiet area into the livelier, mixed-use Forge District, with entertainment, shopping, dining and office spaces, centered on a spruced-up Miller Park. The first major step in these plans was made in June 2024, with the opening of Stage RED, a 300-seat music and comedy venue owned by Fontana native Sammy "Red Rocker" Hagar.
