About Forest Hill, TX

Slow down in the City of Forest Hill

From its beginnings as a farming community filled with meadows and woodlands, Forest Hill has grown into a suburban city with convenient interstate access ideal for commuters traveling to Fort Worth daily. Just 33 miles southwest of Dallas, this Tarrant County community is smack dab in the middle of Arlington and Fort Worth, 10 miles north. "It's one of those small towns you stop by on a road trip," says Tatisha Marie, a local Florist and owner of Blomme Te Amo, a floral arrangement business. Marie has lived in Forest Hill since 2018 and crafts her bouquets from home. "My backyard is literally cows and horses; I love it so much." Steadily growing in the last few years, the city has seen new constructions and several parks with little retail, but it still has a neighborly feel for its long-standing residents who call it home. Offering a rural feel and bigger lawns, locals of Forest Hill often spend time at community church gatherings, the flea market or swing dancing in the evenings.

Close knit-neighbors who care

Forest Hill Civic and Convention Center is on Wichita Street, usually busy with locals throwing birthday parties, church events and the annual Easter Egg Hunt in the Spring. Good times keep rolling at Swingtime Center Dancing on South East Loop 820, where the evenings are reserved for square dancing. There are over a dozen places of worship throughout the residential blocks of Forest Hill, bringing together the community through events and fellowship. "The neighbors are tight-knit and family-oriented, always throwing bible studies or block parties, and the city throws things like Coffee with the Mayor," Marie says.

New developments surrounded by trees

With street names like Oak Haven Drive and Orchard Street, Forest Hill is a primarily residential city with trees cushioning homes in front and backyards. This city comprised neighborhoods filled with sidewalks and brick ranch-style homes built in the late 1960s and 70s with attached garages. In contrast, planned subdivisions are growing with the city's development, filled with new-traditional stone and farmhouse styles with modern amenities, close to neighbors. "I told my realtor I wanted to live in a place with more space. I didn't want to live in the city, so they brought me to Forest Hill." Marie says. Current prices range from $225,000 for a home built in the early 2000s with 1,000 square feet to over $365,000 for a 2019 build with around 2,300 square feet.

Eat like a Texan at Luby's

Aside from rummaging through antiques at The Market at Forest Hill and Nellie & Sue's Flea Market on Mansfield Highway, Forest Hill locals head to La Gran Plaza de Fort Worth, a mall with dozens of retailers around 6 miles away. "It's so small we don't even have a grocery store here. But I don't mind it when I go shopping; I typically go to Mansfield or Hulen, about 15-20 minutes away," Marie says. However, Foodland Markets and Save A Lot are within a 2-mile radius. The culinary scene comprises homey, authentic Mexican restaurants like Taqueria El Toro and El Cielito Lindo. As well as familiar chains like Luby's, "It is an old-school cafeteria-type place; everyone goes here, especially the senior citizens, but I am right there with them," Marie says.
