Community poised for growth
Change is on the horizon for Forest Oaks. “A massive Toyota battery manufacturing plant is being developed less than 10 miles away and is set to open in 2025,” says Jennifer Clark, resident of Forest Oaks and the Director of Marketing and Operations at Forest Oaks Country Club. “More families will be moving into the area, and you can already see more cars along Highway 421. The hope is that the plant will also bring more retail and restaurants near the neighborhood because there’s only one grocery store right now.” Forest Oaks has a secluded feel, situated 10 miles southeast of downtown Greensboro, with lakeside living and a 60-year-old established country club serving as its centerpiece.
Forest Oaks is within minutes of the new Toyota battery plant that will bring many jobs.

Homes with a view and ample land
Established midcentury ranch and split-level homes line the fairways and waterways of Forest Oaks Country Club. Spacious yards are well-maintained, and entryways are adorned with colorful gardens. Moving further into woodsy backroads are colonials with brick facades and Tudor-inspired houses. Privacy becomes more prevalent along the outskirts of Forest Oaks, with some houses sitting on more than an acre of land. As the community has grown, new housing developments have started to pop up along hilly streets. The brick- and vinyl-sided new traditional homes sit on smaller plots with mature trees dotting fenced-in backyards. They also feature small patios and two-car garages. Prices here range from $320,000 to $585,000, depending on the number of bedrooms, the amount of land, or whether they have golf course views. While much of the area does not feature sidewalks, Clark says, “The neighborhood roadways aren’t hectic, so you’ll still see people out walking and biking all the time.”

Country club serves as recreational and social centerpiece
Earning the community its name and sitting at its center is the Forest Oaks Country Club. Established in 1962, the course once hosted the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship. While the club is membership-only, the golf course is open to the public. “We do have a good contingency of members from the neighborhood, and most live within a 10-mile radius,” Clark says. “There are six pickleball courts, six clay tennis courts, fitness classes, a pool and all kinds of social activities. There’s even a barber shop, so the club is a real asset to the community.” After playing a round or relaxing by the pool, members can get a bite to eat at Champions’ Grill, The Turn or the Snack Shop. Next to Alamance Elementary School, locals will find Alamance Community Park, which features three baseball fields and stands for friends and family to watch a recreational league game. Clark says many residents will also make the roughly 5-mile trip to Hagan-Stone Park, which sits in neighboring Pleasant Garden. “There are nice, peaceful walking trails around small lakes, picnic areas, playgrounds, and a lot of people will go there to camp in the woods.”

Patio restaurants and chain grocers
Due to Forest Oaks’ rural nature, there are only a few nearby restaurants. “Because there are so few options nearby, all of them do good business with the locals,” says Clark. “The hope is that more will start to pop up as more people move into the neighborhood.” Amigos Restaurant and Cantina is a local favorite for authentic Mexican cuisine and margaritas filled to the brim. The restaurant will also frequently feature live music on Friday nights. Next door, Isabella’s Pizza Pub is a small patio restaurant where friends and family mingle over pizza and subs served with draft beer. Locals head to the Food Lion on Groometown Road for grocery restocks. Finding big-name brands will require a 12-mile drive along Highway 421 and Interstate 85 to Four Seasons Town Centre, which houses Foot Locker, H&M, Dillard’s and more.
