In the winter, a couple people on my street will help remove the snow from our 80-year-old neighbor’s driveway. We’ll also have community celebrations around big events, like if someone is moving away or has an important life milestone. It’s a community where you feel cared for.”

Work-based learning with Fort Collins High School
Each of the area’s designated public schools earns an overall Niche grade of A-minus, including Shepardson STEM Elementary School, home of the Stars. Lesher Middle School has numerous extracurricular offerings, including rock climbing club, Girls Who Code and river watch club, where members learn about and monitor their local waterways. Fort Collins High School lies just west of Dakota Ridge and, according to Niche, is the fourth-best public high school in Larimer County. The school’s work-based learning program partners with local organizations for apprenticeship and internship opportunities, where students can earn credit while getting hands-on workplace experience with companies like the Bank of Colorado, UC Health Radiology and Columbine Health Systems. High schoolers can also earn dual credit while taking courses with Front Range Community College.

Fishing and bird watching at Arapaho Bend Natural Area
Stew Case Park is a short walk from the neighborhood’s residential streets and has a playground, a baseball diamond, a soccer field and picnic tables. Roughly 2 miles east, the Arapaho Bend Natural Area has around 4 miles of hiking trails that wind around scenic ponds and the Rigden Reservoir. Arapaho Bend is also a popular spot for birdwatching, with over 80 species inhabiting the area, including prairie falcons and American white pelicans. Anglers can cast a line into one of the surrounding ponds to reel in bass, bluegill and yellow perch. The Collindale Golf Course is the oldest public course in Fort Collins, dating back to 1971 and features meticulously maintained fairways and tree-lined greens.

The historic Jessup Farm operated throughout the mid-20th century near the intersection of Timberline and Prospect roads, just north of the neighborhood. Today, the old farm hosts local eateries like Bindle Coffee and The Farmhouse at Jessup Farm, which uses locally sourced, farm-to-table ingredients in its country-style comfort dishes, from fried chicken to Colorado bass. Across the parking lot, the Jessup Farm Barrel House serves around 16 rotating tap brews. Josh & John’s is a popular spot for those with a sweet tooth, serving homemade ice cream. Trader Joe’s, Target and Sprouts Farmers Market are also nearby.

Hundreds of miles of bike lanes in Fort Collins
Dakota Ridge is about a 3-mile drive from Interstate 25, which drivers can take roughly 60 miles south to Denver or around 48 miles north to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Fort Collins is also one of the most bikeable cities in Colorado, with over 200 miles of bike lanes and trails.
