Riffenburgh Elementary School lies just south of the neighborhood and earns a B-plus grade from Niche. Also with a B-plus, Lesher Middle School has a unique selection of extracurricular offerings, from rock climbing club to Girls who Code, an organization that aims to lessen the gender gap in technology professions through summer programs and clubs. Fort Collins High School has an A-minus rating and, according to Niche and is the third-best public high school in Larimer County. The school’s Associate Degree Pathway allows students to take dual enrollment courses at Front Range Community College and finish 12th grade with both a High School diploma and associate degree.
Plentiful sports facilities at Edora Park
Edora Park borders Riffenburgh Elementary School and is home to 70 acres of sports facilities, picnic space and children’s play equipment. The park has an 18-hole disc golf course, where the North Gate Disc Golf Club plays on Tuesday evenings. The Edora Community Garden has reservable 15-square-foot lots where locals can grow and harvest their own produce. The Spring Creek Trail passes through Edora Park and runs for 9-miles alongside Spring Creek. A mile east of the park, the trail intersects with the Poudre River Trail, a 21-mile paved-trail system spanning from Fort Collins east to Windsor and Greeley. “From pretty much anywhere in the city, you can reach a paved trail within a 10-minute bike ride,” says Amy Houlton, a local Realtor with the Houlton Home Team. “It’s why we are one of the top-rated cities in Colorado for bikers.”
Local restaurants at Park Central
The Park Central shopping center is in the neighborhood’s southwest corner and has a handful of local businesses. East Moon Asian Bistro serves classic Thai and Vietnamese dishes from stir-fried rice noodles to Thai green curry. Obee’s offers made-to-order subs, salads and soups. A few doors down, Rally King Brewing has over 20 rotating craft beers on tap and is a popular spot for watching sports. The brewery’s owner, Matt Kriewall, has won 89 home brewing awards over a 12-year span, including the Great American Beer Challenge’s Best of Show Award. Nearby grocery stores include Safeway, Whole Foods, Walmart and Sprouts Farmers Market.
A biker's paradise
Highlander Heights earns a 95 out of 100 Bike Score and is considered a biker’s paradise, including easy access to nearby biking trails and the bike lanes along South Lemay Avenue. There are a few Transfort bus stops surrounding the neighborhood, specifically on East Prospect Road and Lemay Avenue.
