A remote community away from the noise of downtown Fort Collins
On the outskirts of Fort Collins, along the shore of Fossil Creek Reservoir, Kechter Farm has winding residential lanes, paved walking paths and modern architecture, around 8 miles south of downtown. This 21st-century suburbia has quiet, low-traffic streets and homeowners association-maintained amenities with proximity to the big-box stores and eateries along East Harmony Road. “A lot of people move to Kechter Farm from the Old Town area to get away from the noise and busy atmosphere,” says Robert Miner, a local real estate agent with Black Timber Realtors. “It’s a quiet area with excellent schools. The elementary, middle and high schools are some of the best in northern Colorado, plus commuters are near Interstate 25.”

Houses on small lots with around 4,000 square feet or less range in price from $650,000 to $1.1 million, while larger, luxury builds can go for $1.2 million to $2.2 million. The Kechter Farm Homeowners Association maintains an outdoor pool and a clubhouse complete with meeting rooms, a lounge and a fitness center. Townhomes range from $550,000 to $650,000.

The A-minus-rated Preston Middle School, home of the Pumas, has a varied list of clubs and activities, from Science Olympiad and Special Olympics to Dungeons & Dragons club and LEGO robotics. Fossil Ridge High School receives an A and, according to Niche, is the third-best public high school in Larimer County.

Birdwatching at Fossil Creek Natural Area
A short drive north, along Kechter Road, Twin Silo Park is a 54-acre recreation area with sports facilities, a dog park and walking trails. The park gets its name from the relocated, 48-foot-tall farm silos that are now part of a unique playground. Twin Silo Park also has a BMX track and a community garden, where locals can rent out seasonal plot space to grow produce. The Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area is on the southern shores of the nearly 1,400-acre body of water. The natural area has been designated an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society and is home to bald eagles in the winter months.
