City Park lies just west of the neighborhood. The 85-acre park has baseball diamonds, tennis courts and multi-use sports fields, along with a nine-hole golf course and playground. The City Park Pool is open in the summer months and is home to three water slides and a splash pad. Sheldon Lake presents opportunities for anglers to reel in bass, trout, sunfish and catfish. A fishing license is required. Because of a vast trail system in Fort Collins, Old Town West, with a bike score of 93 out of 100, is a biker’s paradise. The Horsetooth Reservoir is a 6-mile drive west and is the most expansive outdoor recreation spot, especially among mountain bikers, in the Fort Collins area. “It’s one of the most popular places to go in the summer,” says Mike Sibbald, a local Realtor with Elevations Real Estate. “A lot of locals go every weekend, and people will even drive up from Denver for the day. Recreational cliff diving is really popular there.” The reservoir is surrounded by over 20 miles of hiking trails and, in the warmer months, visitors paddle board, fish, swim and tube on the water’s surface.

Dunn Elementary School earns an A-minus overall grade from Niche. The B-minus-rated Lincoln Middle School has a wide range of extracurricular offerings, including clubs centered around Dungeons & Dragons, drama and chess. Poudre High School earns a B-plus grade. Students choose one of five academic pathways to guide their high school course selection, including agriculture and the environment, entrepreneurship and health sciences and human services. The Old Town Library has a maker space, a computer lab and regular programming for community members of all ages. Events include bilingual story times, family escape rooms and author readings.

Driving to surrounding communities
Old Town West is bordered by South College Avenue, which can take locals 14 miles south to Loveland. Travelers can take Interstate 25 around 65 miles south to downtown Denver or 46 miles north to Cheyenne, Wyoming. There are also numerous MAX Transit bus stops along Laporte Avenue and West Mulberry Street.
