Parkwood East has been in the Fort Collins Sustainable Neighborhoods Network since 2021. “In Fort Collins, the city government will reimburse residents who swap their non-native grass lawns to native, low-water-use landscaping and natural grasses,” says April Neuhaus, a local real estate agent with Neuhaus Real Estate.” “These eco-friendly initiatives are seen across town, including in our extensive network of bike lanes and trails.” The sustainability network partners neighborhoods with city employees to plan sustainability events and help with landscaping initiatives. Low-water-use landscaping is encouraged throughout Fort Collins to save water in the community’s dry summer climate. Pollinator gardens and bird feeders are common front-lot features. Residents host toy and clothing swaps to reduce waste, along with block parties and community workshops.

1980s architecture and condos

Modern traditional houses, Colonial Revivals, bi-levels and ranch-style homes were built throughout the 1980s and sit close to one another on quarter-acre lots with fenced-in back yards and attached garages. Single-family homes range from $450,000 to $750,000, and houses have between 2,000 and 3,200 square feet. Condo units with one to two bedrooms on the neighborhood’s north side range from $240,000 to $310,000.

Outdoor recreation in Edora Park

The 70-acre Edora Park lies just north of Parkwood East and has facilities for baseball, tennis, soccer and disc golf, with an 18-hole course playing host to the North Gate Disc Golf Club. The park also has a popular playground, a skate park and a community garden, where residents of surrounding communities can seasonally rent plot space to grow and harvest their own produce. The Edora Pool Ice Center has an indoor pool and two ice rinks and is the home base to Colorado State University’s water polo and hockey teams, the Fort Collins Figure Skating Club and the Fort Collins Area Swim Team. The paved Spring Creek Trail winds through the north end of Edora Park and spans 9 miles, connecting numerous Fort Collins Parks that lie along its namesake creek. Parkwood East is across the street from Ascent Studio Climbing and Fitness, a rock-climbing gym with both bouldering and top-rope routes, with the tallest climbs reaching 49 feet.

Bioscience offerings at Fort Collins High

Riffenburgh Elementary School earns a B-plus overall grade from Niche. Lesher Middle School, home of the Vikings, also receives a B-plus and has a wide variety of extracurricular activities, from chess and gaming to rock climbing. With an A-minus rating, Fort Collins High School is listed as the third-best public high school in Larimer County, according to Niche. The high school hosts the Bioscience Career Academy, where students interested in biological science can garner useful skills for possible careers in biotechnology, crime scene investigation and biomedicine.
