A neighborhood for boat lovers and convenience lovers
Located in the Yachting Capital of the World, the waterfront enclave of Harbor Beach is a nautical paradise, perfect for boaters, yachters, seafood and beach lovers. Within walking distance of Fort Lauderdale Beach and sailing distance of some of the best seafood restaurants in the area, Harbor Beach is highly desirable for its luxury homes and gorgeous waterfront views, all in a prime location. "There are two guarded entrances. So, while it's not private, anyone that isn't a resident has to have a photo of their ID taken to enter," says Melanie Groenendaal of The Elmes Group of Compass. Each home, apart from those along Seabreeze Boulevard, has harbor access. Private docks, tethering boats and even 100-foot yachts are standard in the exclusive neighborhood. With a median age of 63, the area is lovely for retirees looking to enjoy their free time on the waters of the Atlantic under the Florida sun.
Courts and fields for every sport
Besides the prominent beachfront destinations of Fort Lauderdale, Holiday Park is the place to get active and take in fresh air. The city's Little League operates in the park's many baseball diamonds, and the football and soccer fields get plenty of attention with leagues and pick-up games. Courts of every kind sit beside the park's walking trails for those looking to play a game of tennis, pickleball, basketball, volleyball or shuffleboard. Dogs and children are also welcome to use the large playground and fenced-in dog park. To enjoy the Atlantic access, locals walk across Seabreeze Boulevard and post up for the day at Fort Lauderdale Beach. The sand courts are usually busy with volleyball games, and young residents can enjoy the playground right on the shoreline. With convenient access to the Atlantic via the Stranahan River, it's easy for boat owners to set sail and explore the rest of Florida's coast.

Wide canals for large yacht docking at home
Harbor Beach has something special that the rest of the yacht neighborhoods can't offer. "It is the neighborhood with the deepest and widest canals in Fort Lauderdale," Groenendaal says. "If you have a boat with a wide beam, it's important to have access to a dock on a wide canal that allows the appropriate amount of space to turn. A few other neighborhoods of Fort Lauderdale can house large yachts, but only on the point lots." Luxury is the keyword accompanying home listings, usually of Spanish Revivals and sprawling modern mansions on tight lots. Residents, however, have no issue taking advantage of their space as custom, heated pools fill the backyards of each house. A select few even boast private basketball courts, tennis courts and putting greens. Towering Mediterranean Revivals with arched windows and red-tiled roofs are a common sight, and the sprawling properties range anywhere from $1.5 million to $40 million, with a median price of $7 million.

Harbordale Elementary is where many students of Harbor Beach begin their education, and Niche rates it as an A-minus. Next in line is the B-rated Sunrise Middle School, which has impressive athletics facilities and programs. Older students can attend A-rated Fort Lauderdale High School, which offers a pre-law and public affairs magnet program that allows students to explore legal studies, criminal justice and public service careers. Students participate in mock trials and frequently take field trips to the Broward County Courthouse to witness actual trials.

Stop for lunch while shopping for the basics
Nearby is Gilbert's 17th Street Grill. The casual spot is great for taking a lunch break while shopping in The Harbor Shops, serving classic American fare like burgers, wings and onion rings. The shopping center features Publix and Winn-Dixie, as well as boutiques, salons, specialty stores and more local and chain restaurants. People head to Boatyard Restaurant, Fort Lauderdale's premier waterfront dining destination, for a slightly fancier meal. The establishment combines upscale dining with a laid-back coastal attitude, serving freshly caught local seafood in a nautical-chic environment.

Hop on convenient bus transportation at Harbor Beach.
Bordered by the famous Beachfront Avenue
Some bus stops run along Seabreeze Boulevard. However, most neighborhood residents are car-dependent, as there is no public transit on the private streets of the area. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International is a 16-minute drive away, and a few hospitals are a short drive west of the neighborhood. Fort Lauderdale sees heavy traffic during college spring break week, and the city has a higher-than-average flood risk.
