A waterfront boating community
There's a reason Fort Lauderdale is known as the yachting capital of the world, and communities like The Landings are precisely why. Nestled in the northeast corner of the city, just a mile west of the beach, The Landings clings to the Intracoastal Waterway's shoreline with waterfront properties. Wide canals branch off the inlet wind inland, sculpting the cul-de-sacs of these suburbs and providing each single-family property with ample water frontage for large boats and yachts alike. "If you're a boater, this is a great place to live," says Richard Masterson, a Realtor with ONE Sotheby's International Realty with 15 years of experience in the area. "East of Bayview Drive, there are no fixed bridges, so you have direct access to the Intracoastal Waterway. Even on the west side of Bayview, it's still very boatable."

The Fort Lauderdale yachting staple
Residents may also be interested in joining nearby yacht and golf clubs. Accessible by the Intracoastal Waterway, the Lauderdale Yacht Club has been a city staple since 1938. This traditional, private hub welcomes families with lessons and camps for kids to join and amenities for members of all ages to utilize. Closer to the neighborhood, just south of Commercial Boulevard, the Coral Ridge Country Club offers a world-class golfing experience. Its 18-hole championship course with precisely bunkered greens and classic runway-style tee boxes provides a challenging and fun experience for members of every skill level. Meanwhile, days spent under the sun along the Atlantic coastline are found at Lauderdale-by-the-sea-beach, just east of the community.

The Landings' residential streets
With so much going for the area, it's no surprise that The Landings' homes are in high demand. "My friends lived in their home on a cul-de-sac for 30 years," says Masterson. "They loved it. Great neighbors and family oriented." Properties in The Landings were built in the 1960s, and many have been substantially remodeled or razed and rebuilt since. Its residential streets are lined with primarily traditional ranch-style homes. Of course, newer builds have introduced newer styles to the neighborhood, including contemporary and midcentury modern designs. These homes range in price from $225,000 for a condo to $10 million for a free-standing house, depending on size and condition.

Dinner with a view
Central by land and sea, The Landings sits between the Intracoastal Waterway and North Federal Highway, or U.S. 1, lined by commercial areas. Delicious franchise eateries such as Black Rock Bar and Grill, with their delectable Black Rock Ribs, straddle U.S. 1. As do locally owned restaurants like Blue Moon Fish Company, an upscale seafood spot located on the Intracoastal featuring waterfront views and fine dining. As for cooking at home, grocery stores reside on U.S. 1 as well, including Publix and Walmart Neighborhood Market.
