A central Fort Myers suburb
The growing suburb of Westwood on Fort Myers’s east side, about five miles from downtown, is a newer neighborhood, with most development happening after 2000. Its subdivisions were planned around day-to-day convenience, with homes close to schools, recreation, shopping and dining. Several thoroughfares intersect Westwood and Interstate 75 is only 5 miles away. The community’s location and affordability are the main draws, says resident Kay Fullilove, a Sellstate Max Perform Realty Realtor. “It’s close to the highway and where a lot of people work. Plus, you’re only 25 minutes from the beach. The farther south you go, the more expensive areas become.”
The Brazilian Market and Bakery is popular amongst residents of Westwood.
Many Westwood communities have swimming pools and luxurious recreational amenities.
Westwood is a short drive from the scenic surroundings of Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve.

Spanish eclectic houses, townhouses and condos
Westwood’s winding streets wrap around manmade lakes and attractive landscaping. The neighborhood has a variety of homes, which Fullilove says makes the area appealing to many age groups. “Kids bike around; there are families and retirees. We really have a good mixed-age group.” Prices start with condos, ranging from $160,000 to $300,000. Townhouses and attached villas range between $300,000 and $400,000. Single-family homes in the neighborhood come in three- and four-bedrooms. Options built in the 2010s often display Spanish eclectic architecture, featuring arches and barrel roof tiles. New construction properties take a more streamlined, contemporary approach to the style. Single-family homes range from the low $400,000s to the mid $600,000s. HOAs are standard, and Fullilove says monthly fees are relatively low.

Trailhead Neighborhood Park is in the neighborhood.
Most subdivisions in Westwood feature private recreation areas, but Trailhead Neighborhood Park is right in the neighborhood, too. It has a playground, open field and outdoor fitness area. Local bikers can access the North Colonial Linear Trail. “It’s really convenient to just hop on,” Fullilove says. City-owned Eastwood Golf Course, which sits just outside of Westwood, has been a community fixture since 1977. It sprawls across 150 acres and has a par-72 layout with many challenging water hazards. Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium abuts the golf course. The planetarium features intriguing and educational shows, complete with surround sound and laser projection. The nature center might have fewer bells and whistles, but it’s no less immersive. Visitors can hike through pine flatwoods or observe beautiful birds and butterflies in one of the aviaries.

Good eats and brews at Sidelines Sports Bar & Grill
Sidelines Sports Bar & Grill is a go-to for after-work hangouts. The menu is tried and true, with a solid draft list and classic American fare. Across the street, Miller's Ale House is a pub chain with a similar vibe. Farther down the road, El Gaucho Inca Steakhouse is a prime choice for a date night. Aldi is right in the neighborhood for groceries, and more shopping options are on 6 Mile Cypress Parkway, less than 5 miles away. The commercial corridor is lined with big-box stores like Walmart and Hobby Lobby, as well as chain restaurants and fast-casual joints, from Culver’s to Chipotle.

Hurricane season in Fort Myers
According to Fullilove, Westwood is not in a flood zone. “A lot of people are looking for that right now. We had no substantial damage or flooding issues in the last couple of hurricanes.” Still, the Fort Myers Fire Department asks all residents to familiarize themselves with evacuation routes and keep basic disaster kits. Hurricane season, which ranges from June 1st to November 30th, is always serious this close to the coast.
Westwood residents are a good distance from the coast, but hurricanes may still be a threat.
Westwood does not have an immediate flood risk, but precautions are always necessary.
Westwood residents are encouraged to know evacuation risks regardless of flood risks.
