Entertainment without, coziness within
Fort Wayne’s Buckingham neighborhood attracts homebuyers with its mix of quiet suburbia and scenic beauty. “There’s no neighborhood like it in Fort Wayne,” says Managing Broker Beth Walker of Fairfield Group Realtors Inc. “It has one of the largest lakes in the city, and a nice mix of single-family homes, modest villas and condos.” At the community’s center is the lake, which some residents can walk to from their backyards. Many of the properties in the Village of Buckingham and Lakes of Buckingham subdivisions were developed in the late 1980s and have maintained their curb appeal, whether it’s ranch-style condos or larger homes. Downtown Fort Wayne is a 5-mile drive, but the bulk of what residents need day-to-day is closer.

Well-kept homes and condos on neat yards
Buckingham’s residential streets wind around the neighborhood lake. Well-maintained yards back up to its waters, while most other homes are separated from its view. Three-bedroom ranch-styles from the 1980s appear throughout the community. Some of these are condominiums, though they are built to appear more like a single-family home. These sell for between $185,000 and $350,000. Homes of 4,000 or 5,000 square feet typically sell for $500,000 to $550,000.

Two parks and a lake to enjoy
Lake access is open to residents, though fishing, skating, swimming and boating are not allowed. A dock with benches allows for views of the lake, adjacent to community tennis courts and a small field suitable for soccer, football or other less-active pursuits. “The convenience of the location usually drives people to live here,” says Walker. “Residents have easy access to many of the amenities in the area, as well as the amenities inside the community.” Bristers Spring Park is about a quarter-mile north, where kids spend time on the playground. Kreager Park is also nearby, with 218 acres of recreation space that includes a fitness area, soccer fields and baseball fields. Children of all abilities can use Kreager Park’s boundless playground, the first inclusive spot of its kind in the city and state. The park’s loop trail is ideal for a low-impact walk.
