An intimate, know-you-neighbors community
Homebuyers who are looking to live in a tucked-away pocket of Fort Wayne brimming with architectural history will feel right at home in Foster Park. “Everyone is friendly and very neighborly here,” says resident and community leader Kody Tinnel. “And that neighborliness is what sets us apart.” Though the neighborhood consists of only a few streets, the southwest Fort Wayne district overflows with rich history and a vibrant community. The elegant mix of architectural styles popular in the 1920s through 1950s garners the subdivision a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. “Foster Park is small but mighty,” Tinnel says. “The neighborhood was designed to prevent through traffic, with U’s and dead ends, which makes it intimate. It creates a super quiet vibe in a relaxed family setting that lets you really get to know your neighbors.”

Homes on the National Register of Historic Places
Foster Park’s architecture has remained well-preserved since its establishment in the early 20th century, thanks in part to its status on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic styles, including Tudor Revival cottages, Craftsman-style bungalows, two-story Colonial Revivals and post-WWII Contemporaries make the neighborhood a coveted spot for homeowners in the 46807 area code, or “the 07,” which Realtor Cory Allen of Regan and Ferguson Group calls the “hip zip.” Allen says, “On average, homes in Foster Park sell within a day of listing, and very few hit the market each year.” Real estate prices typically range from $145,000 to $345,000. Homes are located on well-maintained lots on quiet residential streets lined with sidewalks, lamp posts and mature trees.
A historic and one-of-a-kind neighborhood, Foster Park has charm, character and community.

A namesake park that anchors the neighborhood
The neighborhood’s namesake, Foster Park, is one of Fort Wayne’s Legacy Parks, meaning it was established 100 years ago or more. “Foster Park is a great asset to our neighborhood,” Tinnel says. “We are fortunate to have such a wonderful public space right in our backyard.” Stretching across 255 acres, the park boasts stunning flower beds, a playground that’s slated to be replaced in the coming months, pavilions, two tennis courts and winding riverfront trails. Golfers in the neighborhood can walk to the Foster Park Golf Course, and people enjoy the pickleball courts on the park’s grounds. Walkers and bikers heavily use the 2-mile trail, colloquially referred to as “the loop,” connecting to the Rivergreenway and the area’s robust network of trails. “Our residents are very intertwined with the Park,” Tinnel says, adding that apart from frequenting the park, folks are also big advocates for its upkeep.

A friendly pub and live music within walking distance
The close-knit feel of the community extends past its homes into the local shops and restaurants, some of which are within a mile’s walk of the neighborhood. Tinnel recommends the 07 Pub, one of a handful within walking distance where “you’ll always see a familiar face,” and The Club Room at The Clyde Theater, where locals enjoy frequent live music and daily specials. Groceries can be acquired just next store to the theater at Save A Lot. And the buzz of downtown Fort Wayne isn’t far in the distance. “In Foster Park, you’re in a residential area that’s quiet yet highly walkable,” Tinnel says. “It’s just a quick bike ride, drive or walk to get to some of the really exciting things that Fort Wayne has to offer.”

An active neighborhood association with its eyes on the future
“Foster Park has a highly active neighborhood association,” says Tinnel, who served as the association’s president from 2017 to 2022. “We try to keep everyone informed and connected.” The district’s neighborly feel is fostered through opportunities to engage and mingle, from the yearly “Cider and Donuts” block party in the fall to monthly newsletters. The neighborhood’s citizens were also extremely involved in giving valuable input for the Packard 2030 Neighborhood Plan, which outlines quality-of-life improvements for Foster Park and the other 17 neighborhoods that make up the Packard Area of Fort Wayne. On the agenda is expanding arts and culture programs, preserving the character of the neighborhoods and enhancing the area’s overall safety. “Residents are pumped for the Packard Plan,” Tinnel says.
