Rustic, residential neighborhood a quick drive from downtown

Four miles southwest of downtown Fort Wayne, quiet suburban streets lined with tall trees form the small Sand Point neighborhood. This area has wide, grassy lawns perfect for gardening and is close to niche vintage shops, locally owned restaurants and the iconic Foster Park. But small-town amenities aren’t all that Sand Point offers: the neighborhood’s proximity to downtown means commutes are quick. “There are big yards,” says local Realtor Lilliana Caro of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group. “You’re outside of Fort Wayne, but still really close to downtown, where there are lots of stores and restaurants to explore.”

Locals grab breakfast at The Bluebird Restaurant

Though Sand Point is mostly residential, its outlying streets are dotted with diners and shops. The Bluebird Restaurant, a diner on the corner of Bluffton Road and Saint Point Road, is famous for its breakfasts, says Caro, especially its pancakes and French toast. Sand Point residents can pick up treats from 375 Degree Donuts and Sweets, also found on Bluffton Road. “Getting anywhere in Fort Wayne is around a 15-minute drive— it’s just that kind of city,” says Emily Ewing, a Realtor with North Eastern Group Realty. The nearest supermarket, the Save A Lot in the Foster Park Plaza shopping center, is just north of Sand Point. The shopping center also has locally owned shops, like the Art Werks Bike Shop and Crescendo Coffee, and The Clyde Theatre, an indoor concert venue that dates to the 1950s. The theater now hosts live music, while guests can order meals from The Club Room at The Clyde, the theater’s attached restaurant and bar.
