Suburban Neighborhood in Fort Worth, Texas
Tarrant County 76008, 76108
Chapel Creek embraces a slower pace than nearby Fort Worth or Weatherford. Once a community that felt on the outskirts, Chapel Creek has become one of White Settlement’s fastest-growing neighborhoods since the mid-2000s. “From Highway 820 to Chapel Creek to North of 30 are about to be solid new homes,” says area resident, Sandra Gillock, a librarian at White Settlement City Library. “Everything is being developed rapidly. There’s a new warehouse being built right by Chapel Creek, which is good because it’ll bring a ton of jobs to the area.”
Roads and towering streetlights offer a smooth and safe walk around the neighborhood, making up for the absence of sidewalks in Chapel Creek. Timeless brick Craftsman ranch homes dominate the streets, a testament to the neighborhood’s architectural choices of the early to mid-2000s. Recently, planned new builds under 2,000 square feet have become more prominent and can sell between $285,000 and $400,000. Homes between 2,000 and 4,000 square feet often cost $500,000 or more. Wide driveways and single-car garages offer space for multiple cars or additional storage space, emphasizing the practicality of this family-friendly community, and blooming Texas rosebuds add vibrant color to sporadic yards in spring and summer. While most homes are owned, there are also properties available for rent, such as Chapel Creek Cottages on Eaton Street.
White Settlement Independent School District students can attend Haze Elementary School and Brewer Middle School with a Niche score of B and B-, respectively, and Western Hills High School gets a B Niche rating. With a price tag of $14,750 a year, Covenant Classic School is located right in the middle of the neighborhood, making it easy to bike or walk to and from school. The Christian private school requires that students take Latin, arts and music classes throughout their entire academic career.
On a sunny day, take a walk at Vista West Park off Vista Heights, visit the playground or watch the blue dasher dragonflies dance over the pond. For four-legged friends, drive to Cherry Lane Dog Park via White Settlement Road. Leonard Golf Links is just across Interstate 30 or visit Raymond Park and run around the spraying water feature in the summer. Although locals are car-dependent, Chapel Creek offers easy access to Interstates 30, 820 and 20. “There can be a lot of traffic sometimes,” Gillock says. “But for the most part, it’s a short drive from everything in Fort Worth, and there are plenty of places to eat and things to get into in Lake Worth.”
Just up Highway 820, Willow Wood has Walmart or Albertsons supermarket and local favorites, Pho House or Mancuso’s Italian. You’ll find restaurants and bars to sit and enjoy a cold drink off Camp Bowie West Boulevard. Dirty Saloon is a frequented bar with weekly live music, and if you walk in on a weekend, you’ll hear the crowd cheering and singing at karaoke. You can get a quick bite to eat at Dayne’s Craft Barbecue or West Side Café off Camp Bowie if you’re in a hurry.
For shopping, Ridgmar Mall is 6 miles away via I-30 and includes Dillards, JCPenney, a movie theater and an aquarium. Driving toward Fort Worth 10 miles east, you’ll discover many city attractions and events for all ages. Every November, there’s the Cowtown Birthplace of Western Swing off Collinsworth Street. And on the weekends, enjoy live music at Concerts in the Garden through the spring and fall seasons. Closer to home, the White Settlement Historical Museum hosts free events, such as Celtic Music at the Museum and a Celtic-themed potluck open to the public.
“We see our neighbors at the Cowtown Farmers Market on Saturdays, and we have a lot of parades throughout the year. We’re having one in a few months, actually,” Gillock says. “There’s something about a smaller-sized community that makes you feel at home.”
