Franklin’s commercial corridor
While downtown Franklin is the city’s historic district, Councilwoman Beverly Burger describes the McEwen area as the “More modern area of our city, along Interstate 65, where there are a lot of corporate headquarters.” More commonly referred to as CoolSprings, this community is home to the CoolSprings Galleria, one of the Nashville metro’s three major malls. Residents of McEwen live in upscale suburban homes or new apartments close to this busy commercial corridor. When not working, they often shop for natural foods at one of the trendy grocery stores or meet up for drinks and dinner at a regional or national chain restaurant. “There’s the downtown and, yeah, that’s the more quaint small country town feel, but where they’re actually going to dinners and doing things that's CoolSprings. There’s a trampoline park for the kids and luxury car dealerships there, too,” says Kelsea McAuliffe, a Realtor with NexGen Realty Group at Keller Williams, who lives in this part of Franklin.

Traditional, Colonial Revivals and new communities with classic styles
Brick contemporary Traditional and Colonial Revivals in hilly subdivisions make up much of McEwen’s housing. Some ranch-style homes on larger lots exist outside of downtown, while the neighborhood's southern end has a dense mix of townhouses and brand-new subdivisions. Many homes in the south end were built no earlier than the mid-2010s, but several still exhibit classic styles like American Foursquare, Tudor Revival and Craftsman bungalow architecture. Depending on size and age, about half of the single-family homes here cost between $550,000 to $750,000. However, homes with footprints well over 2,500 square feet can go from $800,000 to $1.5 million. Townhouses here often have footprints between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet, and cost between $550,000 and $750,000.

Shopping, dining and entertainment around the CoolSprings Galleria
Although malls nationwide have struggled, the CoolSprings Galleria continues to see some foot traffic. Businesses at this massive shopping site include brand-name apparel shops and an Apple store. The CoolSprings corridor also has office parks with sleek corporate buildings. Companies headquartered here include Mars Petcare, Mitsubishi Motors North America and Nissan Americas, one of Nashville metro’s largest employers. Local eateries include Sperry’s Restaurant, a steak house with a vintage pub interior, or Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille and the Blue Sushi Sake Grill, two popular upscale chains. “I actually went there one night, and Kourtney Kardashian was there. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh,’” McAuliffe says, recalling a visit to Blue. Tony’s Eat & Drink provides a spacious sports bar with garage-style doors that can open during temperate weather. The Tin Roof 2 is part of a Nashville chain known for its bar food and live music. Grocery stores include Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods.

Disc golf, canoeing on the Harpeth and fun at the Sky Zone Trampoline Park
Franklin’s outdoor spaces include Liberty Park, a roughly 85-acre site that features a playground and a 10-hole disc golf course. The park also regularly hosts baseball games and is home to several nature trails that lead through the surrounding woods. The Harpeth River winds through the southern end of McEwen and includes a launch site for canoes and kayaks. The river borders the Franklin Bridge Golf Club which has an 18-hole championship-level course. The area also has several indoor venues like the Sky Zone Trampoline Park and the Franklin Family Entertainment Center, which is a bowling alley with a gaming arcade and pool tables. Bowlers can also enjoy buckets of ice-chilled beers while they compete.

Williamson County Schools’ strong academics and early career prep
Williamson County Schools and the Franklin Special School District serve the McEwen area. Ratings site Niche gives both divisions A grades and ranks Williamson County Schools as the best district in the Nashville metro. Students who live in the communities closer to the mall may start at Liberty Elementary School, which gets an A from Niche. They can then go on to Freedom Intermediate and Freedom middle schools. The two Freedom schools get A grades from Niche and serve different middle school grade levels — Intermediate serves fifth through eighth, while Freedom Middle serves only seventh and eighth grades. Students on the opposite end of the community may start at Trinity Elementary School and Page Middle School, which receive A grades from Niche. Centennial and Page high schools cover the McEwen area and, respectively, earn A and A-minus grades from Niche. The Williamson County School district supplements its strong academics with special programs and partnerships aimed at helping its high schoolers get an early jump on their potential careers. Notable initiatives include the College, Career and Technical Education programs.
