1950s community surrounded by transportation routes and scenic vistas
Despite its name, Grimmer is far from grim. The original downtown of Fremont, this densely populated enclave of midcentury homes, offers views of the Diablo Mountain foothills and easy roadway access. Plus, houses are smaller here than throughout the city, leading to lower prices than the rest of Fremont. “If you take the affordability to quality-of-life ratio, you increase the affordability, and you still have a great quality of life,” says local Realtor Alex Lehr, founder of Guide Real Estate. “It has access to freeways, all the amenities and good schools.” Located near the center of Fremont, the neighborhood is divided into light industry along the eastern edge and a residential interior. It’s all between the 680 and 880 Freeways and the BART rail line.
The Grimmer neighborhood offers a balance of suburban comfort and urban access.
Lake Elizabeth offers scenic walking paths for a refreshing stroll.

A handful of townhouses and manufactured homes are found around the area, too. Homes sell for a median price of $1.5 million. Townhouses begin at around $600,000 and continue to $1 million, while single-family houses range from $1 million to $2.25 million. There are also manufactured homes in this area that range from $125,000 to $325,000.
