Galveston Island may be small, but it’s full of bayside excitement, and the Lindale community fully embraces how quiet and calm it is while still being close enough to join in on all the fun.

“The entire island is about 32 miles long and 3 miles wide, but there’s so much to do in such a small amount of space,” says Sharron Hensley, HomeSmart Realtor, Houston native and Galveston Island resident. “Being on the bay just opens you up to all different kinds of activities. You have all the beaches, and there are jet boat rides. The dolphin tours are really popular, and everyone loves visiting the different historic districts.”

Spacious one-story homes sit on large lots throughout the neighborhood. Traditional is a typical architectural style among homes, featuring attached garages and manicured lawns. Charming bungalows with front and back patios can also be found, adding their own touch of character to the community, and sprawling contemporary-style homes with backyard waterfront views sitting on acreage lots are hidden gems that can be found in the area. Pricing can range from the high $200,000s to the high $400,000s, with larger homes on acreage lots exceeding $1 million. For those interested in smaller spaces, there are several condo buildings in Lindale, with units priced from the low $100,000s to the low $200,000s.

Served by the Galveston Independent School District, students can attend the top-rated Morgan Elementary Health, Science and Engineering Magnet School and Austin Middle School before enrolling in Ball High School. With a lengthy list of notable alums, Ball High counts NASA Aquanaut Emma Hwang and former Pittsburgh Steeler Casey Hampton among the group and holds an overall Niche score of B.

Home to the Leroy Naschke Athletic Field, Lindale Park features amenities for the active athlete, including a baseball and softball field, tennis courts and a walking trail. The park also offers playgrounds for young children to enjoy and a dog park for your furry friends to run around and get some exercise. Nearby, the Corps Woods Nature Sanctuary is a birdwatcher’s dream as it houses the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. Spotting a wide variety of bird species along the trail and in the ponds is common.

For groceries and everyday essentials, stop by Arlan’s Market, or take the short drive to Galveston’s Own Farmers’ Market for fresh fruits and vegetables provided by local vendors. The farmers’ market is open every Sunday.

With indoor and upper deck patio seating, the nearby Marina Bar & Grill features a menu full of island-inspired dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Because of its amazing views of the Galveston Yacht Marina, the restaurant is a favorite gathering spot to watch the sunset over the Galveston Channel. You’ll find fine dining at the nearby Porch Café, offering menu items like pan-seared sea bass and grilled red snapper. Don’t forget to get your spirits up with its weekly wine and whiskey pairing every Sunday.

Galveston Island is full of historic districts, and The Historic Strand District is one everyone enjoys visiting. Designated as a National Historic Landmark, the district — also known as The Strand — is comprised of detailed architectural buildings that date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The entertainment and shopping center of Downtown Galveston, The Strand is also the location of the Texas Seaport Museum and several seasonal and holiday festivals held on the island throughout the year.

We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
