Suburban Neighborhood in Garland, Texas
Dallas County 75043
Situated in the southeastern section of Garland, Club Hill is an established suburb bounded by Lake Ray Hubbard, one of Texas’ largest recreational freshwater lakes stretching over 21,000 acres. “Lake Hubbard is great; I take my boat there all the time,” says Patrick Abell, a Realtor with United Real Estate and resident of Garland for over 20 years, “people like to jet ski and go tubing, and we also have 7-8 fishing tournaments a year.”
Many residents move to Garland due to its proximity to Dallas, which is about 16 miles away and accessed by Interstate 30. Though Club Hill heavily relies on cars for commuting, you’ll find bus stops for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).
The community gets its name from Club Hill Elementary, whose namesake combines the Eastern Hills neighborhood and the old Eastern Hill Country Club. Residents flocked to this area before 2014 due to the Eastern Hills Country Club. However, it has since closed, but Club Hill’s country club-style homes are still a mainstay. And no worries, you won’t miss out on the club experience; you can sign up for the Dallas Athletic Club, 3 miles south of Club Hill.
Club Hill is primarily residential, offering a blend of single-family homes and apartment-style living. You’ll find contemporary, Dutch colonial and traditional ranch-style houses with brick and stone exteriors and large trees, providing a shaded canopy from the blaring sun, a must to survive Garland’s humid summers. Club Hill features medium lots, well-polished sidewalks, and most residents utilize street parking, although there is an occasional garage. Prices may range from $550,000 for a five-bedroom near Lake Hubbard to $360,000 for a modest-sized three-bedroom.
Students residing in Club Hill may be a part of the Garland Independent School District, a highly rated district boasting an overall score of an A-minus, according to Niche. Club Hill Stem Elementary is within walking distance, nurturing and challenging young minds in kindergarten through fifth grades. The Classical Center at Brandenburg Middle is a magnet school known for its classical curriculum, which includes dance, gymnastics and piano. Students at South Garland High are encouraged to participate in the school’s signature programs centered around prospective STEM and Trade careers. “At all of Garland’s high schools, you can graduate with your associate degree, and it’s completely free,” Abell says.
When you have free time, walk or drive to Eastern Hills Park, a 12-acre green space with ample room for picnics, morning strolls and letting the kids burn off some steam on the playground. Anita C. Hill Park at Indian Lake is a quiet escape with a large pond, where residents enjoy feeding the native ducks and geese.
Trips to the grocery store are never a hassle with Walmart Supercenter, and about 5 miles away, you’ll come across Firewheel Town Center, with dozens of big box stores. Living in Club Hill, you’re also 3 miles from historic Downtown Garland, known for its centralized quaint town square, with eclectic shops and dining. In Club Hill is Scooter’s Coffee, a regional chain for a latte to your morning commutes to school or work. Soulman’s Bar-B-Que is a local Texas chain for classic smoked barbecue platters that’ll remind you of home. Pupusas Mama Tita is a cozy spot where you can sit and enjoy traditional Salvadoran stuffed corn tortillas. “We are a barbecue and meat-centric community, and you can find a barbecue or taco place just about anywhere,” Abell says.
In the evening, the Homer B. Johnson Stadium in Centerville Road comes alive with residents and sports lovers flocking to watch the school district’s football games, band recitals and track meets. Downtown Garland holds several reoccurring city-wide events such as Thirsty Third Thursdays, where locals sip on cocktails while shopping and the Garland Pop-up Market. So, whether you came for the schools or proximity to Dallas, Club Hill’s outdoor amenities may be enough to get you to stay.
